If I try to eat what the 20-30 yr old women at work eat for lunch I'll put on 2-3 pounds in a week! I think I'd like a treadmill but it would have to go in the basement and no tv down there. I'd need something to watch though I suppose I could listen to the iPod. I've got 7-8 stupid pounds I just can't shake and if I could my clothes would fit a bit better

Good for you Karen for sticking with it!!! I wish you lived closer and we could walk together. I need to find a walking partner.

Yep, its heck to get old!! Can't eat the same things or the same amount !! When DH and me go out, I leave him in the dust I walk so fast as he is a slow walker and since I am used to walking on the treadmill, I can walk fast. I have to make a conscious effort to slow down for him :D :D I wish I had some one close by to walk with as it does get boring on the treadmill, I read on my warm up and cool down, and listen to music as I jog.

I eat about 1200 cals a day except on 2 days a week when I try to eat 500. Thee is some recent research out about 'fasting' can help to maintain heart health, diabetes and stroke and that recent studies in rats/mice also showed that keeping thin lessened the incident of Altzheimers and even increased new neurone formation. This blog mentions it a bit.

I set up my laptop to whatever book I am reading -- since I read almost exclusively electronically that's easy enough -- and read while I work out on my machine. I used to watch old TV on Hulu (free) but I find a good book makes the workout go faster.
Sometimes I listen to a book from Audible -- but mostly I read.

I go to the fitness center at church on Tues, Thurs, & Sat to walk the treadmill. I wheel in & then get on the treadmill for 7 minutes, stop, rest for close to 5 min, & then walk again. I do 4 sets & drink water in between sets. I have a personal trainer to chat with me while I work out. I can do 1.4mph at level 1 incline. We're going to increase mph & incline level beginning October 1st.

Marty, on that treadmill is the "level one incline" setting level, or is it inclined (with level zero being level)? I placed some blocks under the rear of my treadmill so I can run downhill on the lowest incline, to level with the incline at 50%, to uphill with the incline at 100%. I like to program it to change the incline as I am running and then I feel like I am on real terrain.

Miss Fleecy, incline level 1 is a setting on the treadmill. I have a personal trainer working with me.

Yes, Marty, I understand that part. I was wondering if that setting was level or it was inclined. I have used treadmills where "1" (the first incline setting) was level, and others where the first setting was a slight incline. (And, on mine, it is actually a decline.)

Miss Fleecy, it does actually incline slightly at level 1. Otherwise, the setting would be zero which is where I started out back in August. Next week, I'll do 7 minutes on the treadmill, rest 5 minutes, do 7 minutes on either the bicycle or the rowing machine, rest 5 minutes & then repeat. By October, we'll increase the incline level to 2 & up the speed to 1.8mph. Everything has to be done very slowly so I don't overstress my heart. It is disheartening when my trainer cannot find a pulse to check my heart rate or the alarm goes off on my defibillator. Overall, I think that I'm doing very well & maybe one day I can get out of my wheelchair totally. I've been in it for 9 yrs so I always keep hoping that I can build up enough strength where I will not need it.
