Interesting sewing machine cabinet, ever seen one?

New postby kjh9835 on Sun Aug 30, 2009 7:05 am

I bought this at an auction maybe 7 or 8 years ago, didn't need it but too good to pass up. We've never seen a cabinet quite like this but we think it's the original cabinet that was made for this machine which is a Singer 778 Touch N Sew if I remember correctly. The machine is boxed up in storage b/c we used the cabinet for a TV stand for a few years by putting cardboard and a large piece of styrofoam sheeting across the top with a fabric runner that matched my decor and stored board games, etc underneath. Joe's on nights this week so is sleeping and I forgot to ask him before he went to bed.It might be for a different machine but I think it's the cabinet for the 778.

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it? When the machine is in the cabinet for use and you need to access the free arm, all you do is release a catch on the left side of the cabinet and the top slides over to the left and drops down so you can use the free arm. It's quite interesting. The cabinet itself is quite large so it's in storage now also until I get a house with my own sewing room. We moved quite a bit of stuff to clear out the garage for Joe's new toy so I took some pics before we loaded it in the truck.

Nice cabinet, Kathy. Have no clue what the Touch & Sew cabinets look like. That is similar to my Horn cabinet which DH bought for me in 2001 but much more elaborate. I really like it & think that the one you have is custom made. Just my thoughts.

The cabinet holding the Singer Creative Touch machine that a friend gave me a while back looks a lot like that one. The doors are slightly different, but the rest looks a lot like it. Is that one heavy? I couldn't move this one on my own.
I'm creative. You can't expect me to be neat too.

Thats the cabinet for the Pfaff Creative 1471. My mom got the cabinet when she got her machine. I have since sold the cabinet to my MIL who had the same machine as me, but then her's died, and now her Husquavarna just sits in it, she can't close it up. I loved the cabinet, worked great for holding all my supplies, until I started to get too many!!

Ours had the 778 in it when we bought it, it fits and works quite well so now I've learned some Pfaff machines also fit. The cabinet has small rollers and when it's empty, it not heavy at all. Even full, it's easy to roll around on concrete or low pile carpet. I don't really have a use for it right now but keep hanging on to it for when I get my own sewing room again. I may eventually pass it on to one of the girls if they are interested. I only gave $25 for everything and it worked from day one.

Kathy, I love that cabinet. The beauty of the wood & the carving is my style of furniture. Enjoy!

Hi Kathy,
I just got back from an estate sale and they had a sewing machine cabinet just like that. It had a fairly old (1970s?) machine in it. But, it didn't fit perfectly so I am guessing they reused the cabinet.

There were four sewing machines at this sale, including a really old-school embroidery machine. Very interesting.

My grandma had a Singer Athena 2000 that she bought in 1978, I believe. Her cabinet was exactly like that.
