Fitting issues

New postby bridesmom on Wed Oct 10, 2012 9:19 am

So I wanted to make this dress for Hawaii, and figured I'd make a muslin first just of the top view. And this is how it turned out. The bindings were cut on the bias as per the pattern, but the fabric is quite gauzy so it all stretched out when I pressed it, plus the armholes are HUGE. I didn't realize this on the pattern when I bought it. So I tossed it into the corner, and made some adjustments to do the dress out of my chosen fabric.

So here's the dress with higher armholes, but it's not hemmed. Can't decided if I want the long length or knee length. Don't you love the dress tucked into the jeans look? I rarely wear dresses so what do you think? Like it better long or knee length?

Libby, you are a jewel. Thanks for the chuckle.
I also like it short. Will you make one for me, please? Just kidding. I am in awe of your abilities.

Another vote for short. Cute dress. What's the tattoo?

Hmm., either length will work on you. I really like the muslin too. Is there any way to save it

Thanks for the opinions, as I look at the pictures I like the shorter one too. The shoes are my house slippers, that I paid $115 for as they are some German make to help with my arches and arthritis in the feet, I don't plan on taking them!! The shoes with the long dress makes me really laugh, reminds me of the cow in the moomoo picture I posted!

The muslin, I fixed the next, just turned the binding in and sewed it down, worked great, but I'm a little stumped with the armholes. They are way too deep, so I suppose I could take off the binding (including the neck I just fixed  ), take up the shoulder seam a bit, remove the sleeve binding, and redo it with regular seam binding, or lingerie elastic!! (that just came to me as I was typing) That may work! I foresee another 6 month project in the making, just in time for summer!

The tattoo is a parrot, got it 26 years ago Jan 2 as a wedding gift from Rob. Always wanted one, and was really into parrots at that time. Over them now, but still like it. Have thought about getting something written underneath it, just haven't come up with what I want yet.
