September quilting

DGD wants a new quilt for her bed, which you have to climb up into, and all her toys and desk are below it. The quilt I made a few years ago, is princessey and she has outgrown it. Plus the bed is only a twin and the princess quilt was a double/queen. So she picked out a design and told me the colors. I got the jelly roll today, the colors are blues, purples and greens in batiks. She was very specific on how I should make it. I think this one is going to be a designer! It will be easy to do, sew the jelly rolls together, find a pale blue piece for the top, cut a curved edge on the jelly roll strips and applique on an octopus, an orca and some other sealife. She figures it should be done by the end of the week, haha! Christmas for her!

I brought home an unfinished quilt from the women's prison that needed the quilting finished and binding done. It's for auction at a fundraiser in October that I have been asked to head up (the auction part). I'm excited and nervous. I have 12 different quilts that I've made over the past two years that are for this auction. It's to raise money to keep our ministry to the prisoners going, as the government has now taken away our funding. I finished quilting and binding it this afternoon and I will start sewing down the binding now. I'll post a pic after it's done, it's quite cute.

Right now I'm working on another tote/diaper bag. Got all the pieces quilted and the binding and handle done. Just need to sew everything together. Gotta get at it as the shower is next weekend!

Laura--that is a wonderful ministry! The Bible clearly tells us to care for those who are in prison and most of us Christians fall woefully short in that area.

I finished my T-shirt quilt class this afternoon. I cut up 30 t-shirts and am now in the process of making them into blocks. This is going to be a Christmas gift for my daughter. I figured the class would at least help me get started on the project. And now, I can actually see this thing coming together by Christmas! It is going to be twin size. I've got enough shirts left to make her a lap quilt, too.

This project is using all her T-shirts from pre-school and elementary school. There are several shirts from millenium year 2000, and lots of Scooby Doo, Power Puff Girls and random cats. There are also some from trips we took. And, there's one from the Hard Rock Cafe in Oman that my brother sent when he was serving over there during the early days of the Gulf War. Sorting through all these shirts brought back a lot of fun memories for me.

I'll have to make another one from her high school shirts later on. She's still wearing some of those. There might be enough of those for a king-size quilt!

Has anyone else ever made a T-shirt quilt?

Shelly, I made one a few years ago from DH's tshirts that he had saved as a kid. It was one of my first quilts and I didn't interface the knits which was a big mistake plus I used polyester batting, very puffy and it was a nightmare to try and stitch down. Learned lots though. I have two tshirt quilts to do for the same son, for his girlfriend and her sister, out of their dad's tshirts. They are all solid color so it will be quite a bit different, and I will start interfacing the tshirts this next week. I have an idea in my head for doing them, I just have to get them laid out.

I finished the baby quilt tonight, washed it and will post a pic, it's so darn cute!

I also finished the top to a Kona Challenge quilt that I am doing for our quilt guild. We each got 1/2 yard of our choice of a fabric one of our quilt guild members designed for Robert Kaufman, we can only use it, and Kona solids to make the quilt. No idea how I'm going to quilt it, will have to go check out some modern quilts, as it it needs something different.
