Karasew, that usually happens when you have missed one of the steps or hooks in your top threading. I have a machine that the thread pops out of one of the hooks quite often and then thats exactly what happens with my stitches. Recheck to make sure you have the top thread done correctly. Let us know how it goes!

This sewing machine was purchased by me in 1979 in the wooden cabinet that gives one a support to lay out the material when sewing. Have only had about 3 service calls since I keep the lint, threads, etc. cleaned up. The bobbin does wind inside so if you run out of thread there's no need to take the thread off the spindle but just fill the bobbin and continue sewing. The cams are built inside the machine so you never see them and you engage them by the knob on the right and select the design. There are many more features which are illustrated and explained in the manual. In my opinion this is a well constructed machine and should last a long time if cared for properly. I am new to this site. I was searching for a feed dog for one of my other sewing machines and came across this site and seen where people where writing about the 1036. I love mine. I call it "OLD FAITHFUL" because it has never failed me. Oh yhea I blew a motor up and had to have a couple things replaced over the years but nothing like any of my new machines.I bought mine new in 1979, i believe it was. I have 13 machines in all and 2 sergers. I love to sew and I think anyone that gets there hands on a 1036 and keeps it cleaned and in tune, will last them along time.Every now and then I run across someone who wants to learn to sew and I tell them I will teach them anything I know. I always let them use "OLD FAITHFUL" because I'm not afraid of them tearing it up like I am any of my newer ones. I use to tell my husband , he would go before "OLD FAITHFUL". So far I still have both.

To Bama: Did you ever figure out how to use your machine. I have one, actually am sewing on it right now. got it when I was 16. I actually have the 1030 style, and the 1036. Love the machine. The bobbin got damaged in my 1030, and I have tried to get it repaired over the years. No one repairs them anymore. So my husband bought me the 1036 off e-bay. It is pretty much the same machine, but doesn't have the cams that go in the top of the machine to do decorative stitches.
To momquilts: If your parents ever want to sell the machine in the wood cabnet, I might be interested.
I bought a newer singer machine, but I think sewing machines are being built now days to do the sewing for you, or just to do embrodery. I actually sew things and you just can't do all the things I used to be able to do on either of these machines.

I bought a used Creative 1036 but it didn't come with manual, i thought it should be easy to work with it but it's not easy especially for my wife, if i cann't find a manual, she will throw it in the garbage, i will appreciate if you can scan your manual and send to my email which is javad.sadr@polymtl.ca.

I purchased my 1036 in 1979 and agree it is mostly a great durable machine - but I occasionally have issues with thread looping on the back side of the fabric. Repair shop said it was not threaded properly - thread was not between the tension disc properly. They said everything else was fine. Naturally now I am on a deadline and it is happening again and I have re-threaded the machine a dozen times with no improvement. I can only see one tension disc. Does anyone know which side of it the thread should go? I have always pulled it to the right side - is that wrong? Any other thoughts? Thank you in advance!

Martha, I have always had a problem with Old Faithful creating thread nests until the mgr of the singer shop told me that I was supposed to always hold the thread ends in my hand when I started sewing. Turn the wheel by hand and hold the threads with the other hand just until 2 or 3 stitches completed and then let go and sew normally. I never again had a birds nest underneath . BTW- Old Faithful is my Singer 221 featherweight that I purchased used in 1957, and it is still going strong 57 years later. I have to hold the threads on my Janome memory craft 4000 also. But it is easier because I don't have to turn the hand wheel , just step on the pedal with that one.
