Love the socks I hope Wally and your daughter enjoyed their special day. Best wishes for a great year. I really admire the knitters on this forum. I tried to master socks, Highland Dance specifically and was a dismal failure Ah, we can't excel at everything. Take care.

Don't feel bad Ann. I made one pair, that were big enough for Michael Jordan, and then made 1 single one and gave the yarn and sock away. No more socks for me.

Socks are tricky. I think the secret is to get the right pattern from which to learn initially. Very basic. VERY basic otherwise it'll make no sense whatsoever.

Dorothy, since you have the "2nd sock syndrome" have you ever tried to knit two at once circular needle fashion? I was just looking at a book on that. Interesting.

I do not have second sock syndrome. I always make the second sock -- just rarely on deadline. If I did two at the same time I wouldn't have any finished on time and would only have two half socks to give!!
I like making socks. I've done enough that I pretty much know how to do it without directions other than how many rows for a particular size. I use a magic loop method -- I do that on anything round and use a cable needle almost all the time for everything. I see no sense in using two, three, four or more needles when I can get by just as well with one.

Is the magic loop tricky to learn? Seems like a good idea. I'm knitting in the round on a project now for the very first time. Not too different than 4 dps. I think I'm liking it though.

I had a heck of a time figuring out the magic loop til my oldest stepdaughter sat down and showed me. It's really easy once you've seen it done. Check out to see if there are some you tube videos.

i figured it out from written instructions and a quick look at a video. It's a lot easier than four needles going every which way.

Personally like 4 needles. I've tried looking at that knit two at once thing and I cn't get my head around it. I normally only have one ball of wool..
