Question on Patio Chair Fabric and possible repair

My husband and I just got a used patio set. The chair has a rip in the material and I'm not sure if it can be repaired. All I know is that the material is thick and course. It's almost like a weaved type of something. I attached 3 pictures that might help. Can the material be replaced or fixed on a certain type of sewing machine? Orrrrr should we just pay to have it done professionally , I'm soooo confused I'm just a beginner sewer but thought this forum would be of some help on this matter.

Boy, Dee. That's a tough fix. I'd say impossible given the stress the seat will be under by even the lightest weight person. Out of my league. Good luck.

I was afraid of that LOL. It's a Hampton Bay set so going to check out their site to see if I can come up with anything.

Just did some more research. It's called a sling ( the material ) that goes on this kind of patio furniture, interesting. They have sites where you can buy the material but it's not cheap. Around $37 just to replace one chair. Good thing we got this set on a barter trade

The sling wouldn't be too hard to make but I can't see repairing that. It may be a fun little project if u could find a nice outdoor fabric and use the doing as your pattern and sew new ones!

My husband just told me he found the material on Ebay for a much better price. And you just have to hem the sides. Will keep ya all posted

Will do definitely! I think my husband wants to wait now right before next summer to do this project. But when we do I will post the details

There is a plastic "rope" (think piping) stitched in a casing that you will need to reuse. Often they are cracked into several pieces, but you can still use them. Be sure to use a UVR polyester (outdoor) thread. The channel that the piping slides through might need sprayed with WD40 or silicone to facilitate removal and installation. Not hard job at all.
