Mid August quilting

New postby bridesmom on Mon Aug 13, 2012 11:32 pm

So, Jan is trying to finish a ufo and I have sandwiched two small lap quilts. I will leave those til next week to quilt cause I am working on a baby quilt that I am really having fun with, except for the ripping and sewing and ripping and sewing and ripping and sewing. Then I started to do the top half and wanted to sew curved pieces and messed it up twice, so I walked out and came up here to see what everyone is up to.

I'm off tomorrow, and can't decide on - do I paint the bathroom, do I go out and weed or do I sew. I need to weed, I don't need to paint but I bought it and I'd like to do even just one bathroom and i want to do a bit of sewing. Decisions, decisions.

I vote for painting the bathroom. If it's as small as mine, you can sew when you're finished.

and you get to feel virtuous! Face it, the weeds will just grow back - why not let them get big enough to really get hold of...

back to the borders - I have finally decided what to put in them and Tony comes home. Not that he needs entertaining but he likes to spend time with me...

So what have you decided, Laura? Anything yet? If it was my decision I would weed for a while and then sew for a longer while. Even if it's a a small bathroom it'll still take your whole day. I know it would me!

I use about 1/2 to 5/8ths inch whenever I make a rag quilt. Do you have spring loaded scissors? Makes it so much easier.

Blunt nose spring loaded scissors!! I have a pair of Fiskars and now I can't find them again. I knew I should have bought more than one pair.

So I painted the main bathroom, 2 coats, painted one wall in the hallway as I had too much paint in the tray. In between coats I went out and weeded the front yard, which was pretty quick. Then after the 2nd paint coat, went downstairs and worked on a quilt that I am donating for a fundraiser auction. I should tell you I was up at 6:45 and started taping the bathroom at 7 am! Cleaned up the sewing room a bit, went for a shower and just got back from getting my hair colored and cut. I am loving the cut!

I had a pair of the snippers like Laura describes. Perhaps our two pair had a rendavous somewhere ;) .
My blocks are 10 inches so I can afford 5/8" seam allowances. Thank you Lennie!
Laura, You are like the energizer bunny. You just keep going and getting stuff done.
