Short dress to floor length

I love the out of print McCall's 6069 http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6069-p ... -10880.php But would like to make it floor length for a wedding. How do I do this?

I think the first thing to think about is whether you will have walking room in something this straight. The lengthen process is simple enough. Measure from your waistline to the length you would prefer, add hem measure and lengthen the pattern that much. Then decide how to add room for walking, either by adding a split or gusset, or simply adding to side seams, or nothing at all.

In looking at the line drawings, I see that this is possible. Since this dress is supposed to be made from a stretch jersey knit with an elastic waist, I would taper out from the hip line about 2 inches to add more fullness to the bottom of the skirt. You will still get the sleek look & have walking, movement in the skirt. Just my thoughts.

I think I'd prefer having a kick pleat or slit on the side or the back, I'm more of a klutzy type person and if I didn't have the extra room I'd rip it!

Thanks for the great advice. Do you think I should make the skirt fuller?

Yes, just slightly. You can taper the skirt to flare out about 1 inch just below the hip area which will give you an additional 4 inches without ruining look of the gown. It will also give you enough walking room.
