I told Joe about my issues and he said "use your walking foot", hmmm, why didn't I think of that?

Now if only I could find it and see if I can zig-zag while using it. I found one but its not the one for my 401A slant shank and the machine that it does fit is up in the attic so he'll either have to bring it down tonight after work or help me look for the right walking foot.

One of these days, I'm going to mark each of the attachments and accessories with what machines they fit b/c I have 15 machines but only use 4 and they use different types of feet, etc and I'm always trying to put the wrong one on the machine I'm using.

Kathy, I don't think you can zigzag with a walking foot. Mine is for straight stitch only. I would use a bias binder foot to hold both sides together.

Kathy, my walking foot allows zigzag., (I think). How about trying this. My mom made everything last forever. That included wool blankets. The satin bindings would get freyed and she put new bindings on them. She did it on a treadle with no zigzag. 1st open the binding and place on the blanket right sides together. Stitch with straight stitch. Use as light a presser foot pressure as you can and still control the fabric. Stop every few inches and with the needle down lift the presser foot.. After all that side of the binding is done then fold it over the blanket edge. Now you can hand stitch the second side in place or stitch along the edge with the straight stitch foot or zigzag. Still stop every inch or so and with the needle down lift the presser foot. I cant describe how to get around the corners or how to line up the binding on the 1st side. Another suggestion. It might be less aggrivating to sew the binding on all by hand with a blanket stitch.

The walking foot does zig-zag and it's done. Now it is not exactly the same all the way around since I had to change to the walking foot and that line of stitches is over a bit farther than the first part of the blanket but it did catch both sides and I'm not taking it out unless the owner wants me too.

I'm not charging her anyway since it's taken me so long to lose them, forget them, remember but still can't find then she asked me about them which took 2 of us to open every box/container of stuff until we found them on the front porch in a big container of felt! I *know* I would not have put them out there but since dd19 moved home spur of the moment and we had to do some re-arranging and I'm crazy most of the time with bad memory, who knows?

Anyway, I'll deliver this week and if she wants me to do it over so it's all even, I will but then I'll charge her. She's the kind of person that free is good even if not perfect and the blankets are for her son and men do not care about that kind of stuff!

I think I ended up using a roller foot for satin binding on a baby quilt or 2 or 3. Its been so long, but If memory serves that is why I bought that expensive foot. I don't use satin very often but that foot is useful for sewing on satin.

Done is good, Kathy, & if you can't see any errors from 3ft away, it's perfect. If she doesn't like the job you did, then charge her a minimum of $20 an hour for your time.
