Ladybug quilt

For a co-worker's sister's first baby. I didn't quilt the bug or the leaf, though the leaf does have a few leaf 'lines' on it, I wanted it to be all crinkled when washed. The ladybug body was done with crinkle stuff, you sew it onto the fabric, then steam the daylights out of it and the fabric shrinks up and gets all crinkly and textured, it's still soft, but the wings open up so baby can feel inside.

That is really cute. I went to the quilt shop yesterday and got more background fabric for the buggy quilt (and spent over $100 while there). My class has been delayed one week due to medical reasons so I'll get the buggy done and the Easter stuff before class starts next week. I cannot wait, I'm so excited.

I also signed up and paid for the free motion class in April, limit is 12 per class and I was the last one so glad I went yesterday. I often wondered what they use for crinkle stuff in toys/quilts, what is it and where do you get it? I may "need" to but that in my stash with all the fabrics I bought yesterday.

How cute is that? Love the texture for the ladybug, I have seen the stuff in the stores but it is a bit pricey. Is it still soft?

Texture magic or Krinkle Magic are the two products, and they aren't cheap by any means. You lay a piece of the texture magic on the back of your fabric, then you sew a design or a grid on both pieces. Then you turn it over, and steam the crap out of the texture magic, and it shrinks up to 30% giving you a bubbly surface on your fabric, the amount of bubbling depends on the fabric, a loose weave will crinkle up more than a thicker or denser weave. It does stay soft and seems to wash up fine. I have done it as applique but I think it may be easier to use in piecing, it can be a bit of a challenge to sew it down in applique as it wrinkles up and puckers on the edge, but that's what it's supposed to look like. I've only seen the Jenny Haskins product in store, the Texture Magic by Superior I've only seen on line.

Geez...I missed seeing this quilt!!! It's fantastic, Laura. I have some texture magic that my niece gave me for my birthday quite a while ago...but haven't even tried it yet. Now you've given me an idea to make her a baby quilt using it...as she just announced that she is expecting and the baby should arrive end of Nov.
