I agree...it is a super easy quilt. And I think it would look great as a complete scrappy quilt. And you can just adjust the size of the strips to make smaller blocks and it would look great too.

Started on the squares and strips quilt, I think I will make it a tad bigger for a lap quilt rather than baby quilt size. Or it will just be an oversized baby quilt. It sure is a nice way to use up those bigger scraps! I think I may make a few of these to get rid of some of the scraps I have. I'm almost out of batting, and will have to wait until Feb to get more from my supplier, so I will be a topper for the next while! I also want to try that strip quilt that you posted Judy. Then I'd be a stripper and a topper!!!

Well my goal for this year is to finish up some of my many UFO quilts. I'm working on two UFO BOM (really sampler quilts) right now that I started years ago at the LQS where I took my beginner quilting classes. I can't remember the year I started these...maybe 2007 or 8??? The completed blocks have been sitting in a box with a bunch of other blocks (of which two are the swaps from SWN). All the fabric for these BOMs have been put aside in a cardboard box waiting for me to get back at them. One of the reason's I've chosen to finish these now...I want to release the left over creams & whites from these projects so I can use them in another "new" project where I need lots of scrap neutrals. All these BOMs use different creams & neutrals for the backgrounds in each of the blocks.

One project is a pieced BOM that has 12 x 12" blocks. I had one block left to piece & got that one done this week. Now I'm putting a 1" inner border around each block using a stripe fabric and doing mitered corners. What was I thinking!!! But I had purchased the striped fabric and it was in the box...so now I'm doing it. 3 blocks have the mitered borders done....only 9 left to go. Then it will be on to the sashing & borders.

The other project is an appliqued BOM...that has 12 10" blocks. I have 2 blocks to finish. One block is a vase with tulips that I'm appliquing by hand. The other block has 5 octagons done with paper piecing and machine applique. Only have the octagons cut out for this one. This one is supposed to have pieced sashing using 3 x 1.25" strips and then to finish it with a piano key border. I have always wanted to finish this one and give to my sister. Don't know whether she will still get it...but I'm anxious to see the finished product.

That 2nd one sounds really nice. I love the pieced borders, have done it once. I also really like the pieced binding, just have never remembered to do it.
I have a quilt retreat coming up this next weekend, and I have a HUGE bin of scraps I'm taking. I want to do a wonky star scrap quilt, so I hope to make a bit of a dent in the scraps. Although DGD loves the scrap bin, when she comes, she's in it immediately. Mom was a little worried when she went into it and started pulling out scraps and her scissors. We had to tell her, that this Callie's bin and Callie's scissors and it's ok to be in it. She really wants her own machine, but since mom doesn't sew, she'd have to leave it here. I may get her to come out in a few weekends and we can just sew together, I have my MIL's machine that she may be able to work, I could set it up on a shorter table for her to try out. She'd be fine on my old Pfaff but MIL has it right now. It's the one I'd like to give her to have, but will wait until I get it back one of these months.

I've got 11 of the 12 blocks with the mitered inner border completed. I wanted to finish the last one but just needed to take a break and have supper. Now I need to finish my coffee and go shovel my driveway. We're having a couple of hours respite before the freezing rain hits. So maybe I'll get the last one done tonight. If not then for sure tomorrow morning. Once they're done, I'll take a pic before I start thinking about what fabrics I'll use for the sashings & corner stones.

I 2nd the Ugh on the freezing rain!
Went through my scraps and sorted them into colors, then tossed a bag of fabric that I just am sick of looking at, you know the one that you bought on sale, thinking of all the things you could make with it and then you realized you really hate it! Or you are just tired of looking at it in your scrap bin. I have a pile of turquoise blues, bright greens, bright yellows, reds and oranges. Then another pile of purples pinks and dark blues, and a last pile of black white and yellows.
I am going to work on scrap quilts for the retreat, got my patterns printed out, my scrap bin out, now to start making a list of everything else I need to take. Good thing I have a wagon, I think I will need it!

Laura, Do you have an old tredel machine. The DGD might find it less intimidating. Chloe likes it because she has more control of the speed of the needle.

Here are pics of my blocks with the inner borders. I'm auditioning the fabric (seen in the middle of blocks) that I think I will be using for the sashings. Still have to think about a cornerstone fabric. The outer border will be the focus fabric which is seen in each block...the swirly brown/green/orange/rust fabric.



Here is a closeup of the fabric that I'm auditioning...and am thinking of a cream or white for the cornerstones. Opinions anyone???

That's awesome. Love all the earth tones. If a cornerstone is what I think it is I'd go for the burnt orange myself. But hey, what do I know?
