King Sized Double Wedding Ring Quilt

I've thought about making one also, was going to get fabric while on vacation in the Bahamas and make one to celebrate our anniversary since that's why we took the cruise. Needless to say, I did not buy any fabric but can get it online later if I want to.

I researched the pattern, def. not for a beginner. I did read somewhere that you can cut out the rings in one piece (halves) instead of sewing muliple pieces together but even at that, it's more than I can take on right now. A new resident at work has one on her bed, they are quite lovely.

Go, go, go. You can do it.

I do have the larger pieces wound on bolts so I think I'll unroll the fabric, press it and then put it right back onto another bolt. Hopefully it will stay crease free until I can cut tomorrow.

I usually buy backings in large lengths and muslin by the bolt. DH made me a big board covering for the ironing board out of plywood and I put batting and fabric on top. How nice to use. (Thank you DH).
Muslin goes back on a bolt but backings sometimes I hang on an open ended pants hanger like this: http://www.myfullerbrush.com/pants.htm I ordered mine from a gadget catalog. I sometimes kit my UFOs on one too. Made from metal they don't sag with the weight. I use them for my tablecloths too. Keeps them wrinkle free and easy to grab and use.

Nope...don't press and put right back on the bolt. With cotton, you need to press then drape over something to let it rest for a bit. Then after it has rested (don't know what other term to use) then you can put it on the bolt. It you don't let it rest...any folds will become creases.

This tip was mentioned by an expert quilter at our guild meeting. Now I press and drape over my bed for a while then will fold and put away. It has made a big difference in my fabrics.

I bought a wood quilt rack at a yard sale for $4 that I use for current projects to keep them off my table. Its small so when it's full, I have to sew everything before starting a new project. Since my sewing table is 4'x8', it tends to get full of projects in various stages and the rack helps keep it cleaned off so I can actually sew.

Thank you for the In the winter I sew in the rooms that the cat frequents. This way I can have my projects and the little critter won't make a nest. My fabric room in my c1850 house has no heat so I grab and go, or put on my parka when I want to shop the stash.

I finished cutting the quilt tonight...all 1353 pieces of it!

I'm using Sharlene Jorgenson's Quilting from the Heartland pattern and the 1/8" thick acrylic templates. I was able to cut everything today along with going shopping, making dinner, checking my computer, etc. Tomorrow I will begin sewing this monster! I wish the sewing would go as fast as the cutting.

I started sewing tonight after dinner. I have 12 melons which will make about half a row. Slow going at first until I remembered how to make all the sections. I had DH find a small table so I can put all the pieces on it and off my sewing table. Hopefully I can get a rhythm going and mass produce each step one at a time.

I am keeping a quilt journal on this one and get excited with each entry in the notebook.
