Ottobre Womens Winter Edition

I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the new edition of Ottobre Woman that I received yesterday. I was so looking forward to this issue, but have to say I'm very diappointed. The fashions seem old, frumpy and just not too appealing - I doubt that I will make anything from it. Is it just me???

I just checked out the patterns on the web site, and the only thing I would be at all interested in is the double breasted jacket. But I do agree with you, seems like its all the same type of pattern, jeans, shirts and skirts. Too bad, because their kid's patterns are usually very cute. I have never gotten a subscription to the mag. I just pick out the books that I find have the most patterns I like.

I agree, I was not impressed-glad it isn't just me! They have such cool stuff for the kids but I've found very little in any of their Women's editions to make-just not my style or something

About a month or so ago, I bought my first pair of womens jeans. Levis 515, boot cut, and a slightly lower rise. So, there they sat for a couple weeks.... I wanted to wear them out, but was afraid they looked too feminine.

I had this same issue with Burda and quit buying their women's pattern book. I do buy individual Burda patterns from time to time because I like the fit.
I think since Burda and Ottobre both originate in Europe, they appeal to a very different fashion sensibility than we have in the U.S. I lived in Germany for a while and was surprised about the different fashion aesthetic. I was reminded of this again when we visited England last summer. I dress very conservatively (by U.S. standards) and wear mostly classic styles, but it wasn't hard to pick me out as the American in the crowd, even before I opened my mouth! It appeared to me that European adults opt for much less color and trend more toward traditional, classic styles, rather than the trendier cuts you might see in the U.S.
When I got the Burda books I always liked the clothes, but knew they would always look out of place in the U.S. And, few of their styles would work in the climate where I live (Texas). Not surprising since they are created for the German climate, which is much colder all year round.
So, I did not renew my Burda subscription, but I still miss looking at it.

That makes me wonder, are the Burda patterns they sell in the pattern books created by their US staff or are they all created in Germany?

I checked my Burda patterns and they are created in Germany and distributed in the U.S. I also noticed that the Burdas I have are mostly for classic style dresses, jumpers, pants, skirts and blouses. Nothing trendy. I guess that's their audience in the size I wear.
