My husband is pretty supportive of my sewing. He bought both my machines and sometimes he'll by fabric. And he knows when we move -- something we've done a lot lately -- he knows I'm going to take the best room for mine.

Marty and Dorothy, I'm so impressed. My husband is supportive, but I couldn't in a million years imagine him taking a sewing class! As for buying fabric, he ended up at Joann's with me once when I was buying fabric for a Halloween costume since we were going to dinner across the street. I thought he would go completely crazy! He doesn't like being in any type of store, and I think Joann's was a real test of his patience.

My DH considers any sewing machine acceptable for sewing and the less spent the better. He does go to the fabric store on the way home sometime if I ask him and If I can be very specific as to what I want. He has helped me out this way many times. I just don't tell him the cost of equipment If I can save the money to buy it. He has enough debt and I don't want to burden him with more.

Beth -- Wally doesn't usually get past the cash register to pay. He doesn't browse through the aisles or anything like that.

Dorothy, if he doesn't act as though there is a bomb threat and he must get out of the store immediately or he will die, then I am still impressed. My husband starts pacing and asks "are we about ready?" every 2 minutes or so....

But, I spent 45 minutes at the motorcycle dealer this morning while he dropped his bike off for service. I'd say he owes me a trip or two to the fabric store!

Beth, he usually waits in the car. He just stood outside in the ally in New York city. There was a small fabric and yarn shop in Ithaca he would stand in front and flirt with the owner.

At the fabric store, hubby waits in the car sometimes up to 2 hours so I can shop. He just smokes his pipe & when I finally finish, he'll ask if I got everything that I needed. He didn't even bat an eye when I told him I spent over $100 for fabric for new kitchen curtains. One of these days, I'll get them made.

What on earth kind of fabric was that for kitchen curtains, Marty? You have such a tiny house too.

It was to make panel curtains w/valances for 2 windows & the back door which is half glass. One window is over the kitchen sink & the other window is in the laundry room. The fabric was a quilting cotton @ $12.99 yd & I bought 12 yds based on the pattern requirements for lined curtains. I also bought a few other items that were on sale. I think the total bill was around $150 after the tax was added. Hubby's only question was "did you get everything you needed?". I don't carry credit or debit cards & only carry a blank check to make whatever purchase I plan to make. I rarely carry more than $20 cash at any given time. We don't do any online banking & I don't order online that often.
