What can I do with this?

New postby lendube on Wed Apr 20, 2011 8:56 pm

I know there's a technique in embroidery that uses loose threads. I can't for the life of me remember what it is or what it's called to look it up. Does anyone know what I might be thinking of??? I'm thinking it uses water soluable stabilizer.

Here's what I've got: It's about the size of one of those small watermelons. The colors are wonderful. It's from fraying all of those napkins and the two tablecloths.

Yep...water soluable stabilizer. The way I've done it is to spread it out between two sheets of it and then I free motion all over it to sandwich the threads in between. Then when it is well sewn, you soak it in water til it is still a bit stiff. Then you can cut out shapes, etc to applique onto other things. This is probably clear as mud...

Oh, I've seen that done somewhere in a magazine, Quilting Arts I believe. It looks really cool.

A lot of people use an needle felting tool to punch the threads into fabric to create a new fabric. Nancys Notions carries the needle felting tool on her website. Here is the link. http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/cl ... e+combo.do There are also felting machines that do this also. Have fun with it.

I've heard of both of those ideas. I wouldn't know what to applique though. I'll look around online and maybe play a bit with it. thx

I haven't done anything with the one I made. But a lady in the class used it to cut out a flower, like a daisy, and appliqued it to a bag. It was cool.
