Lennie mentioned in another post about her mom in a LTC facility but was not quite in a wheelchair full time. I have an idea for anyone interested. I was thinking about this the other day and while I haven't tried it yet, I think it would work. I know we are all really busy right now so maybe not for Fall but Winter season.
Use a large piece of felt cut to fit the width of the back of the wheelchair so it fits over like a sleeve, use snaps/velcro along the bottom edge to hold it in place underneath. Then it could be decorated on the back side for the holiday/season by making cutouts (ghost, turkey, wreath, Christmas tree, snowman, snowflakes, etc.). Put small pieces of velcro on the back of the cutouts and I think the "hook" part of velcro will stick right to the felt which makes them removable/repositionable. I haven't tried it yet (way too busy) but it seems like it would work. Sort of like a decorative chair cover that could be easily changed over or removed for hand washing.
Years ago, I also made a felt wall hanging for my Gram in a nursing home. I used red for the background piece and cut out a Christmas tree from green. I had and bought more holiday buttons with a shaft and used safety pins to attach them to the tree before I stitched them together. I even found some mini tree decorations/garland and added it along with cutouts of gifts. It was all felt so quick/easy and we hung it on her door in place of the usual wreath. I had lots of compliments on my "one day" project.
Just thought I'd share.
