Dusan Mrak Magic Fit and special french curve

New postby julieann1219 on Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:09 pm

I am very interested in trying to replace the Magic fit Acrylic French curve with the built in hem-guide and the "open" seam lines. I bought one with my Designing with Dusan Mrak Dress and Pant kits, years ago. My plastic/acrylic french curve combo was broken into pieces years ago. :( My father tried to replicate it with little success. I just cannot bear to buy any other french curves after using the ones form the AFI.

There is an archive here where "Mary" was a friend of his and was able to get things from him personally. If anyone knows how to reach him or if AFI have ever got up a website..please let me know!
Thank you!

I did a search on Dusan Mrak, and one person by that name lives in WA state. You could call him: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=first% ... r=php-phon
I believe this Dusan is an organist, but maybe that is his hobby?

That has got to be the right one.. I thought it was Oregon that he lived in, but Wash. State must be it.. I knew it was up in the very western and northern corner of the continental US.. Here is the info I have.. Magic Fit styling curve ruler. Designing With Dusan-- The box that he sent me the pants patternmaking kit in 2005 is marked from Inventive Technologies -- P O Box 606 Anacortes, Wa 98221 and it came UPS from a package store in that town. Marked "from Dusan" .. That is his first name btw, last name is Mrak. I still have the french curve stored in the blue cardboard that it cam in from the original seminar. It is copywrited 1984... I know I have had it a long time.. I don't remember when he came to Charlotte to give that demo but I was so glad I had read about it in the paper. I learned how to take a jillion measurements and mark little dots on the master and then draw lines from dot to dot and have a basic dress pattern that fit me to a T !! I need to get a buddy and get myself measured aggain so I can have a master to go by to alter the patterns I buy. I suggest you look as she suggested on google, call the number and leave a message.. I'm sure it will go to voice mail.. If you are lucky , he may answer the phone.. He called me because there was a problem and he did not get my message in a timely manner. He called me to apoligize for the delay in answering me.. As I said that was in 2005 and I had found him thru a lady named Mary on the Old S-W-N website. (Not Mary Wilkins, another Mary)

Hello! This is my first post and I'm grateful for the opportunity. I am looking for the curve ruler by Dusan Mrak. Someone has it in BC for $21.00 with a $25 shipping fee. Do you have any idea where I might get one here in the U.S.? My friend took his class, but she won't let me steal hers...Thanks so much, Sherry

Sherry, If you will go to some of the better equipped fabric shops, they will have what you are looking for.. It is a traditional "French Curve Ruler".. I bought one recently at Hancocks, and then found my Origiinal that I bought all those years ago when Mr. Mrak was here for a workshop/sales meeting. The curve part and all hem measure part are the same.. one is just a little longer .. When I found my original , I sold the new one to a friend who did not want to drive to Hancocks.. Suited me. I did not need 2 of them..

Hello-
I am going to buy an old Dusan Master Fit Pattern. I was reading along on this post and was wondering how one would use the Master Fit Pattern to help alter commercially bought patterns. Thank you very much for any help!

If you have the book that came in the set, all instructions are in there.. If you will have the video, I understand all instr. are on it also. I do not have the video and have never seen it. I do have tie book .. I bought it from him back in the 80's. Back then everything was on paper.
