The tables are 48"long x 24"wide x 36"high. Five of them. To make table covers floor length with box pleats on each corner how much fabric would I need? The lady is ordering a gingham in upholstery width (84" I thought). I am thinking three yards is enough.

Opinions, please???

This math is not finished.. ??? here are the questions, how much for hems ?? how much for box pleats?? Now from the measurements you gave it looks to me like you want a finished product to measure 120 X 96.. How I arrived at the numbers 48 plus 36 2 times for the top and ends to floor. this equals 120... 24 plus 36 2 times for the width of the top will equal 96.. As I said I don't know how much hems and box pleats will take..

Libby, you're wonderful. I saw that you were online and I knew help was on the way. Well, I want it to be well made and a larger hem will help the fabric hang more nicely - a 1 1/2 - 2 inch hem probably. The box pleats should also be, I'm thinking, 6 inches wrapped around each corner with a 3 inch fold over on each side to the middle. Make sense? Sound good to you?

thanks so much. :D

And oh, I know how you got the measurements but I get confused about "usable" fabric. By that I mean how not to have a seam down the middle of the table cover or seams in inappropriate places rather than just "how many inches do I need?". Know what I mean? Hope I'm making sense. ;)

This is one of those cases you will have to have seams.. Unless you find double cloth wider than 96 inches wide.. Always do 2 seams instead of one in the middle so that your table top is smooth .. (no seams) That will be the middle 24 X 120 measure.. 3 yards in length would be 108 inches, so I think you will need 3 & 3/4 yds to get the length without a seam.. then you would only need seams on the sidesto get all the way to the floor on the sides.

Actually that's my baby picture. Notice I had no hair or teeth yet. I must have been hungry too. ;)
