A Note about Privacy

New postby kaitlinnegan on Thu Sep 27, 2007 9:37 pm

I just wanted to post a little reminder - this is such a close-knit community that we might sometimes forget that this discussion board is open to the public, and anything you post here can be accessed by anyone in the world either by visiting the site directly or by searching via search engines like Google. Please keep this in mind when you post personal/identifying information such as photographs of yourself, your e-mail address, real name, location, etc.

How much personal information you decide to post is your choice, but I do not recommend posting e-mail addresses in your posts or signatures - they may become the target of spam. It is a much better idea to give out your e-mail privately through private messages. If you realize you have been posting personal information that you would rather keep private and need help editing your posts, please let me know.

Good reminder Kaitlan. We do tend to forget we are not the only people seeing our post.

Just wanted to bump this because there has been some interest in the topic of privacy. Just to be clear, I do not intend to make the forum private in any way. This is first and foremost a sewing forum, and I hope that it will be a resource for anyone on the internet looking for help with sewing issues. One of the great things about Sew What's New (which was also completely open to the public and indexed by Google) was that you could search on Google for a particular sewing term, such as "full bust adjustment" and all the helpful advice people had posted on SWN would come up. For this reason, I will continue to keep Sew What's Up public and accessible by search engines.

As always, if you have any concerns, just let me know.
