New Year, New Stash, New Challenge!

New postby Pudge99 on Thu Jan 10, 2008 1:00 pm

OK! You asked for it and you got it!
Everyone will be a winner in this challenge.
You set your own goal.

Examples: You have 25 UFO's and 300 yards of fabric. You set your own goal of finishing all the UFO's and sewing up 1/3 of your stash (100yds.). or.... You have so much fabric that you can't close the doors on your fabric storage closet. Set your goal to be able to shut that door. Basically figure out what you want to do and make a plan to do it.

Then post your progress.
If you are just doing a basic yardage challenge. Then do it like we did last time post your yardage in the subject line but also keep your own running total. Example: Subject.... 2yds for a total of 57.5 yds
If you are doing a UFO Yardage combo then maybe something like this 2 UFO's, 2yds Total UFO's 6, Yardage 24
If you are doing the closet thing then you could keep track of yardage and how close you are to getting the door shut. Example: 4yds and door won't budge , or once you are farther along, 50 yds and one door closed.

This Challenge will run from now until the last day of March.
This is open entry, you can join anytime between now and the end.
In your first post state you personal goal, and any plans you have for accomplishing this.

The only catch to this challenge is that if you purchase more fabric or add a new UFO to your pile you must admit it and subtract from your total. Example: You sew 20 yards of flannel but then go purchase 15 yards of fleece then you really have only reduced your stash by 5 yards. or.... You completed 2 UFO's and started a new quilt only to loose interest and put it away for later then that only counts as one finished UFO.

At the end of the challenge I will be comparing you last post with your first to see if you met your challenge. Those who do will receive recognition for their efforts. Those who don't still get recognition for their efforts. It is a win, win challenge.

Feel free to ask questions!

Lets get started!

My UFO/Stash Challenge

New postby Pudge99 on Thu Jan 10, 2008 1:54 pm

In the cleaning of my sewing room I found roughly 35 UFO's. Most of these just need a hem, elastic waistband or the finishing hand sewing. Some of are going to require more work like my Red and White Swap Quilt and my Hot Block Swap Quilt. Both of these are still just the blocks.

My personal goal is to finish all 35 UFO's and when that is complete begin making a dent in my huge stash. I am hoping to sew at least 100 yards of fabric this time around.

I am going to maket my Hot Blocks made up into a wallhanging and make some matching cushion covers to go with it. Pictures promised when I finish - but all is on hold as we have the school inspectors in next week.

Oh, this is great! I have two big boxes of fabric - one with some knits just waiting to become tops and another with various fabrics from the Denver fabrics liquidation. I would really love to sew up enough that I could get rid of those boxes or at least fit what's left in my cabinet (which is full).

But one question on the rules -- say if I purchase fabric for a garment, then sew up that garment..do I still subtract that from my total, or is it just new stash fabric (not yet made up into anything) that gets subtracted? I'm definitely going to have to buy some new fabric for my spring wardrobe, since my current stash isn't very color coordinated. But, I do plan to only buy enough for the next 1-2 projects and sew those right away, rather than letting the fabric sit around for a while.

No UFO's!!!! Wow I wish I had that kind of restraint. I can't help but jump into new projects and leave old boring ones to rest on the shelf.

Kaitlin,
Only fabric added to your stash is subtracted.

Great! That will be good motivation to stick with my plan too. :)

My goal is to finish some of the UFO quilts that are for ME! The red swap blocks, the hot blocks (dd does want that one ;) ), my snowman blocks, my house blocks, etc. And oh yeah, to quilt some wall hangings I made for my house. I made a "Cat Stairway to Heaven" top several years ago and never got around to quilting it. I found the pattern on the internet. Cats climbing a stairway up to the sky. I wanted to hang it by our stairway. And a crazy quilt wall hanging I *almost* finished. And my calendar quilt. And some hanky panky wall hangings I started. I better stop while my list is realistic.
I'm creative. You can't expect me to be neat too.

Well, this one I will join as I had already decided to finish up my UFO's. Like Bama, I've got lots of UFO quilts that need finishing...let's see...here's a list of some of my UFOs
a BOM UFO - currently being worked on - only binding needs to be finished
a baby quilt UFO - to be assembled and quilted then donated to charity
a Convergence quilt UFO - to be quilted
a Christmas wall hanging UFO - from a class that needs to be finished and quilted
an Autumn wall hanging UFO - needs to be assembled and quilted
the SWN Red & White Block Swap - quilt to be assembled and quilted
the SWN Christmas Block Swap - quilt to be assembled and quilted
the SWN Signature Block Swap - quilt to be assembled and quilted
a Patchwork BOM - last block to be finished and the quilt to be assembled and quilted
an Applique BOM - last block to be finished and the quilt to be assembled and quilted

Oh my gosh...I didn't realize that I had sooooo many until I made this list!!! Let's see how many I finish before the end of March...   (too bad I have to work in between)

5 UFO's Finished

New postby Pudge99 on Thu Jan 10, 2008 9:04 pm

2 Cub Scouts uniforms (DS#1 and Hubby) are as up to date as I could get them (a patch or two are MIA) and 3 heat packs filled with flax, lavender and eucalyptus. I had the bag part sewn for probably two years but set them aside and then sat something on top of them. Today I filled them and closed them up. I had more than three but I lost the other ones again before I had a chance to fill them  .
Tonight I am gonna print some iron-on's to finish up a few little wallets that I made years ago and maybe put in a few hems and waistbands on some clothes for DD #2.
