Last week, I had a special request to repair a 20yr old stuffed rabbit named "Buster" for one of our church's college students. Sam wanted "Buster" to go back to the dorm in Chicago, IL with him. The request came on Thursday night and Sam was leaving on Saturday afternoon. I picked up "Buster" and saw that all of the fabric across the abdomen had frayed and rotted away. There were large gaps of where fabric had been. I found some linen and proceeded to make a skin graft for the large area where fabric was needed. Due to the frailty of the bunny, I had to hand stitch the graft in 3 sections to cover the hole. It took most of the day on Friday to get it done. Because it was so large, I drafted a pattern and made some pants for "Buster" on Saturday. It covered the skin graft and made him a new look. Sam was very pleased and "Buster" is now at DePaul University with Sam. I also shortened 2 pairs of jeans for another church member who needed them right away with one day's notice. I am also working on Easter dresses for an inner city school. Here are the pics of "Buster" ...

Marty, you are always so busy. I love Buster. I have a bear that my grandparents gave me when I was 5 and I've had to do multiple repairs and also a track suit many years ago. I love the embroidery and would love to be able to put some cute baby ones on some of the baby items I make but at my age it would be an extravagance, plus I would probably have difficulty operating the machine. I'm definitely not a technical person.

Brockie, the nice thing about machine embroidery is that the machine does the work. I just make sure the bobbin is full and change thread colors when the time comes. Once I hoop the fabric and stabilizer, the hardest part of my work is done. I do add embroidery designs to my preemie clothing which makes them extra special. I think that you would enjoy it.

Preemie baby clothes for The Regional Medical Center from Threads of Love ... provided them with over 20 baby gowns, bed sack, caps, tiny little socks, blankets and burp cloths. They were so pleased. Here are some pics of the gowns ...

Marty, did you make all the dresses, blankets etc.? I bet the hospital staff was over the moon with all they received. Everything is beautiful. What pattern was used for the blankets? I get tired of making the same pattern over and over again and it is so hard to find patterns that don't have large holes in them when crocheting. Newborns in Need have strict rules we have to follow and one of them is no holes babies can get their fingers caught in in the blanket.

Brockie, I did not make all of these items. One of my friends did. Another friend crochets the blankets and brings them to me in the summer months. We are sewing for 2 hospitals. The patterns for the gowns are mainly thru the Threads of Love website (copyrighted) and the warmheartswarmbabies.org (not copyrighted). I have been busy with making Easter dresses until I got sick. Have not done any sewing in over 2 weeks due to illness. Both hospitals love the gowns that we have made. We do about 15 - 20 outfits per hospital. My sewing is in stages of completion.

Hope you are feeling better now Marty.
I have found a quick and easy crochet blanket pattern that I've been working on the last few days. Basically it is alternating single and double crochets in the same row then the next row you double crochet in the single and single in the double, very easy but quick and best of all no holes for little fingers/toes to get caught in.

That sounds great, Brockie. One day, I might learn to crochet. I'm still trying to figure out how knit.

On Sunday, there is a fundraiser dinner for Golden Cross Ministries (http://www.goldencross.org) that helps homeless seniors with housing. There will be a silent auction so I volunteered to make some items for the auction. Fortunately, I was able to get the embroidery file with the official Golden Cross logo from the digitizer. Yesterday, I made 3 sets of 4 napkins each and a set of 2 dishtowels. Changing bobbin threads as I changed colors made the back look as good as the front. Hopefully, they will raise some funds for this ministry. Here are the pics ...
