I have been doing a lot of sewing and teaching this month. Got 2 last minute requests and finished 2 projects today ... One of our church's college students is in school over 8 hours away. He has a stuffed bunny rabbit "Buster" that was in dire need for repairs. On Thursday night, he brought it to me and asked me to fix Buster before he returned to school tonight. It was a challenge as "Buster" had fragile fabric that had rotted away which left a gaping hole across his abdomen. Checking the church supply closet, I found some linen and created a "skin graft" for Buster. Because of the fragile fabric, the repairs had to be hand stitched. It took most of the day, Friday, to repair "Buster". Then today, I drafted a pattern and made a pair of navy blue pants to hide the repair. By 4pm, "Buster" was ready to go to college. Sam was so happy as he has had "Buster" since he was an infant. Score!!!
My second project was to shorten 2 pairs of Calvin Klein stretch jeans to a 27 inch inseam. Again, it was brought to me on Thursday night. My church member needed them by tomorrow as she is leaving early Monday to return to Iowa to help settle her parent's estate after the death of her mother. So I cut 1-1/2 inches off of the bottom and shortened them. It was a challenge as the fabric kept slipping. I was going to use a serger at the church to make short of this project. Well the Brother 1034D didn't want to cooperate. I ended up hemming them old school. I got to church to work on Buster and the jeans today at 10:15am and got home at 9:30pm. I am exhausted. Oh and I am working on Easter dresses and preemie baby clothes. It's been a busy month.
