Dressmaker Hours

New postby kassybean on Sun Jul 26, 2015 7:15 am

Hi,
I am having a formal dress made for my son's wedding. It is a full length A-line design with cap sleeves, a cross over bodice and a gathered empire waist band. I have chosen Glitter Satin from the Casa Collection for the fabric. The pattern calls for the bodice to be lined and I would like a simple lining for the the gown as well, probably only to the mid calf. I want to know how many hours I should expect the dressmaker to take to complete the garment. She is charging $25.00 an hour for the labor.
Can anyone give me an estimate of what I should expect? She looked at the pattern and said 8-10 hours.
Thanks in advance.

Based on your description, I would think it would take at 20 hours or more depending how the fitting sessions go and whether the muslin (mock up garment) fits once done or if it needs adjustments. Custom made clothing is much more expensive than ready-to-wear.
