Severe weather

Pray that all in the path of the severe weather are safe. I know that the damage is extensive and I can't imagine going thru a tornado. Once lived in Missouri and went thru many warnings/sightings but never had any damage. We had a minimal tornado go thru our yard here about 15years ago. Twisted a tree right out of the ground and flattened a wooden fence and split a tree down the middle but no structural damage. The corn in the fields was twisted and flat in places but undisturbed in others. It was interesting watching the weather officals come out and do their investigating to determine if it was actually a tornado (it was) or wind shear.

Frequently, we're under a tornado watch or warning. However, most of them after crossing the MS River go either to the north or south of our neighborhood. We did have wind shear damage in 2003 when "Hurricane Elvis" came thru Memphis. It was called "Hurricane Elvis" as the winds reached category 2 level of hurricane force winds. We were without power for 10 days, lost a few trees in the backyard and a tree limb fell thru the roof of my car at that time. However, we were fortunate in that nothing else was damaged. Three years ago, we took down our 100+ yr old Elm tree in the front yard as it was weakening and we didn't want to have it fall on our home. A friend of ours, during a storm 3 yrs ago, had an oak tree fall on their home. His wife was trapped inside the house for several hours but escaped serious injury. Their home was almost demolished and had to be rebuilt. It was a scary time for them. We are just blessed as nothing bad has really happened to us.
