Libby, is yours a Featherweight? A friend of mine has 2 and wants to sell one. I have a Janome Gem Gold for taking to my sit 'n sew, it is light and does some decorative stitches that I know I would miss. I also have a few vintage machines that keep me happy. My neighbor's mom's 99 in cabinet for one!

Kaitlin, how are doy doing on your new machine?

Piney, Yes it is a "featherweight" but believe me it is not light in weight. In the case it weighs over 15 pounds and I have trouble carrying it for any distance. But, my hands are somewhat weak because of arthritis , and carpel tunnel pain. I read somewhere about a lightweight Janome to take to lessons, etc and it sounded wonderful to me. My Janome is a Memory Craft 4000 and not a lightweight by any means. The only machine I have that is not heavy is my Serger. It is a babylock Lauren and it is basic. But it is easy to carry from place to place. I have never picked up my coverstitch machine so I don/t know about it. It just sits on the table beside the serger. Old Faithful lives in the closet beside the front door so it is ready to go when I need to do sewing elsewhere.

Libby, I think mine is as light as Janome makes. I bought it maybe 6 years ago. It is the Gold but it looks different than the ones that show up on a google search now. The Janome Platinum 720 is a small computerized one that does a bunch of stitches, one of my friends got it when she retired. I think she paid close to 400. There is one. the 760 that almost washes the windows for you. The best thing is to go to a dealer with your own fabrics that you use and test them out, then go home and sort out the pors and cons of each.

No more machines for me. Not at age 80. I will make do with what I have. I love my Janome, I just meant it was too heavy to lug around. Mine has 70 something stitches, but 35 of those are for a Small alphabet and numbers from 1-10. It is not an embroidery machine, the letters are about 1/2 inch tall. Great for monogramming a man's handkerchief or putting a name on babies bibs. I don't do much of that anymore.
The majority of my sewing is done at home, anyway. The only time I carried any machines to work elsewhere was to make the 100 year banners for the Church Last year. I had to work there because of the size of the banners. 30X 90 inches .

I understand the age issue, libby. Youdo quite a bit of sewing still. I carry mine here and there to sew with various friends and groups. Your banner project kept you quite busy.
