A New Dress

This is a dress that I made at the Judith Kessinger workshop back in September. It is constructed like a T-shirt, slips over the head, and has a panel sewn for the skirt. You can barely see the seamline. It fits perfectly and I've received a lot of compliments when I have worn it.

Sewingmom, the master pattern and instructions are available online for $30-35. It's basically a T-shirt dress. Very simple to construct. I did it in about 3 hours on my sewing machine as I didn't have my serger in class. I started out making a T-shirt and decided I needed a dress. I added a panel to bottom of the T-shirt to make a dress. Even the hems are done on the sewing machine. With the master pattern, I can create an infinite number of outfits changing the details as I would like. The same with the master pants pattern that I bought too. A simple pair of pull on pants (my favorite) takes about 3 hours to make also.

Perhaps I'll have 3hours sometime. I usually catch up on sleep if a free hour or two come up.
When we get our service dog next month, I will be able to let my hair down a bit.

Very nice Marty. It looks really comfortable. I love patterns that you can make a lot of other things from with just a few changes. I have a three of Kwik Sew books with patterns for women, children and babies and the instructions tell you how to change a specific pattern into something else. An example is a simple t-shirt to a polo shirt with collar and button placket. Another is a t-shirt into a dress for a child. The instructions in these books are very simple so once you get a good fit with the primary pattern you are good to go with all the changes you can make to it.

The website for the master pattern is http://www.fitnicesystem.com. Hope that this helps others who want to create a master pattern for tops and pants. It was easy to fit. I just traced on pattern paper after I took my measurements. Having a fitting buddy helps though. Judith Kessinger recommends using washable Crayola markers for tracing patterns. I bought Crayola colored pencils as well as Crayola markers. I'm going to measure my next door neighbor in Nov to make some work pants for her. Due to her large size and huge thighs, right now her crotch hangs at her knees. I know that must be uncomfortable so hopefully, I can make her some comfy pants.

Thanks for the website Marty. I'm going to check it out. I wish I had a sewing buddy here. DH will help measure but he isn't really into taking his time or making sure the tape measure is level etc.
