Well... we did it.. traded in my old machine

New postby sewhappyrtr on Wed Oct 16, 2013 7:07 am

I knew my machine needed a pm. Its been needing one for a while... like a l o n g while... its been over 2 yrs since I've taken it in for a pm. Anyway, its a Brother, which as the old timers on here know.. I like Disney so that's what I needed when I made the jump to get an embroidery machine back about 10 yrs ago. So I asked how much I would get in trade in value for my machine when we took it in for its pm well it wasn't much... which I kinda knew... considering how old it was... and I looked around... and they showed me some machines.. boy those darn things have jumped in price!! Anyway they had one that was 1 yr old that got traded in last month for a newer model...( wish I had that money !!) ... so I looked at it and they showed me the features.. and hubby was there and listened to everything.. and we left.. and talked about it... and he said this will be your birthday/Christmas/Anniversary... etc.. for the next 5 yrs... presents... I said OK....
So we went back....
I got a Brother...Duetta 2 Sewing/Embroidery machine... with a Floriani thread kit thrown in and they give lessons for as long as you need them.... OH .. What did I do... :o :o

Do I really need this... now...???... Hubby says... just be sure you use it... Bad thing is my old machine used floppy disks.. so I have all my free designs on floppy..now I need to get an external floppy drive cuz new computer doesn't have a floppy drive in it to read the floppy.... :( :( :(

Karen, congrats on your new machine ... you will certainly love it and being able to do larger designs too. :D :D :D An external floppy drive is usually around $10. I have one as I have one or two floppy drives from when I had my Pfaff. I use my Embird software to convert the designs to my current PCS format. Your Duetta2 is similar to my Babylock Ellisimo and I think that Harriet (on this group) has the same machine that you do. She can give you lots of help on it. Have fun embroidering larger designs and it will great to sew without having to remove the embroidery arm. Can't wait to see pics of your projects.

Hi Karen,
Yes, Marty is correct. I own the Duetta 4500D which is the same machine as yours. If you have any questions, I will try to answer them for you. Have fun with your machine! I seem to sew with it more than embroider with it. I must get more inspired and embroider with it some more.

YAY!!! Karen, you will fall more in love with your machine every time that you use it. Can't wait to see pics of what you make with it. Your classes sound wonderful. My little Sofia2 is having her spa treatment since she will be a year old on Saturday. Hubby will pick her up tomorrow. After Christmas, Ellie is going in for her spa treatment and what causes the her little glitches. I can't send her before Christmas as I need her to get my Christmas sewing done. Hopefully, I'll be posting some pics too including Rosie (my new pleater). Have fun with your new machine ... you'll have to come up with a special name for her.

Well, had my first class with my machine. We made a Christmas pillow using a Anita Goodesign design. A 4 hr class.. I had fun... first time in a long time I actually enjoyed embroidering and sewing.. really neat how it went together.. I will figure out the picture thing and post some..
A lady next to me had a machine just like my old machine and it started giving her fits and the repair man had to come over and take it apart, finally she just packed it up and left to finish at home.. no problem for her though.. she has 8 machines at home, she does alterations at her house/shop and also works for a bridal shop in town. When her machine started acting up, I remembered why I stopped using it to embroider, because that is what it would do to me.. I felt like de ja vu...
I was the only one to stay the entire time to finish my pillow...I knew if I left, I would not finish it at home so I stayed.
I go again tomorrow for an embroidery club meeting.. and then stay for one on one lessons about my machine...
stay tuned!!! :D :D :D
