Another stabilizing fleece question

New postby kjh9835 on Tue Nov 13, 2012 4:49 pm

I was asked to make a Chicago White Sox stocking as well as several others for a former coworker. I cannot find the fabric in a cotton, just fleece. I figure it will stretch out long when filled with goodies so could I interface the back with fusible or sew on interfacing and then line it as usual?

I plan to order all the requested fabrics at one time from one site to save on shipping costs but cannot find a cotton print anywhere I've looked.

A fusible interfacing will stabilize the stockings. You can use a press cloth when adhering the stabilizer. Glad to see you posting Kathy and I hope things are going better for you now that you are working.

Fusible fleece would be another option, particularly if you want to keep the stockings 100% fleece. It is thicker than regular interfacing and is soft, so you might even be able to skip the lining if you're lucky, or get the double-sided version and line with more fleece. :D The stockings won't be as stiff as with regular interfacing--in fact they'll be nice and soft--but shouldn't stretch under the weight of normal Christmas gifts.
