Hurricane Matthew

Hope everyone in his path weathered the storm safely. We've never seen so much water as we've had here. Between the 15 inches of rain Hermine dumped on us 2 weeks ago and the 10+ inches Matthew dumped we don't need any more this year. The river is higher than anyone has seen before, over the bank in many areas. Many homes in our neighborhood were flooded and we were stranded for a couple of days because of roads flooding- roads that have never flooded before. Our house remained dry-the roof didn't even leak! We were without power for a couple of days but we do have a generator that can run the electric and our water pump (we have our own well) so that was pretty much all we needed. Luckily the temps outside remained mild so we didn't need our A/C. Hot water would have been nice but I won't complain as others weren't as fortunate. Now comes the work of clean up. Our yard is covered in tree debris and it will take us several long days of hauling branches and limbs to our burn pile.

Oh Brockie, I am so glad that you were spared further damage. As far as I know, my East Coast family are all okay. I know many people are suffering. Prayers for all of those who have suffered damage.

Here in Charlotte, we got some pretty strong inds and lots of rain, but no flooding. The creek beside my house got full t the banks but did not come into the low part of my back yard. I am so glad for this weather the last 2 or 3 days. The furthur eastern part of the state is in horrible shape. @ towns are completely floode still today..

Glad all is well in your area Libby. Things have dried out here somewhat. Our crawl space is still wet so the house feels damp all the time and I've got containers of damp rid in every room and closet trying to keep the mold/mildew down. The fields around the house have dried out enough so the farmer was able to get in to cut the soybeans. Before this last storm some farmers were trying to save their corn crops and got into the fields while they were still too wet and what a mess the fields are now. This 80 degree temp we are having is ridiculous. Looking forward to the weekend and lower temps.

We are desperate for rain as we are experiencing drought conditions. It's been in the 90's this week with a cold front coming this weekend. Supposed to be in the mid-70's. Not much relief from the heat. Brockie, I am so sorry that you're having to deal with mold and all of the damaging things that can bring. I do hope that not all crops have been lost. That would be devastating on top of everything else. My cousin in Robeson County, NC (outside of Fayetteville) has reported that they are still without power and water. All of the surrounding roads have been severely damaged. She's a single mom with 5 children and grew up in New Orleans so she's familiar with hurricanes. She said that this is among the worst that she's ever seen. Praying for all who are suffering.

Marty, I have a niece in Fayetteville. She said her road had 3 feet of water covering it and water just missed coming into her home. Now it is taking her 2 hours to go to work that normally would have taken 20 minutes. So many roads have been washed away. I hope everything that the governor is saying the state is going to do to help out is true. He is on PBS almost nightly telling the residents of NC what he has planed.
Mold/mildew is hard to deal with once it gets into the house-wood, plaster, paint etc.
Marty, I would gladly send any rain we are supposed to get your way if it was possible. We are supposed to have rain this weekend when the temperature drops. It has been in the high 80s the last 2 days and with all this humidity it hasn't been very comfortable. I keep thinking it could be a lot worse.
