sewnews DVD

New postby pinecone on Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:02 pm

I got a bulk mailing of a DVD from sewnews and almost tossed the envelope and papers inside. Good thing I gave it a glimpse!! If I didn't return the DVD (in the postage paid envelope) they would bill me for it. It got me to wondering. Sometimes I just toss the junk mail in the waste at the Post Office. Guess a little birdie said open this one up and read through it. Soooo just a heads up to read before tossing.

that is illegal!
If you didn't order it it is a gift & they can't make you pay for it.

I subscribe to Sew News magazine but haven't received anything like that in the mail. I did get an email about the DVD from Sew News but just deleted it. I do get frequent mailers from Orbital Publishing which I shred.

That is what my DH said too. Keep it, you didn't order it. Nope off it went right back. I didn't even pop in in the computer to have a look. They did send an envelope to return it in sans the case.

It looks like a series "secrets for success, Sewing DVD collection"

I have bought their magazines off the rack before, it makes me wonder where they got my name from. Don't get me wrong, I like the mag, just a little bewildered by the "return by" so I don't get billed. It would be sooooo easy to just toss.

I got a dvd from "Sew-it-All" I think, with easy sewing projects. It was also one of those ongoing types of subscriptions. I was very upset because I didn't ask for it. I called the company and the lady at the other end of the phone told me to keep the dvd and she would cancel the order (which I did not make). I haven't gotten anymore dvds.

This is the law ! ! If you receive something in the mail that you did NOT order, the law says its yours to keep regardless of what the letters say. That is a fairly new law.. There are no loopholes in it.

That is what I thought too but since they did enclose a postage paid return envelope I didn't want to take a chance.

I got the same dvd. It clearly stated that because you did not ask for the dvd you did not have to particpate in the series and that you did not have to send it back. And it is the law and it is not a new law. They gave you the option of sending it back but you did not have to.

This was posted back in February. I just sent it back in the envelope provided, I didn't want it kicking around. You are right it is not a new law.
