Maternity Scrub top pattern adjustments

New postby kjh9835 on Sun Sep 18, 2011 4:41 am

I made a coworker a maternity scrub top the other day as I was really stressed out and needed some "me" time. I gave it to her at work and she tried it on. It's almost ok to wear and she asked me to make her a couple more after vacation but it will need adjustments.

Its an empire style Simplicity 3645 and I made version A. The bust seam fits too high, about 2" up onto her bust instead of right underneath and the bust darts are in the wrong place. Can I just lengthen the bodice piece by 2" and shorten the front belly piece by 2" to make up the difference and move the darts over? Is it a full bust adjustment that I need to do?

I won't be doing any sewing until after we get back but I told her I'd post and see if I can easily do the alternations to the pattern before she buys me any fabric.

Thanks,
Kathy

Kathy, I think if you do a full bust adjustment, the top will fit better or either lengthen the top at the upper bodice so that the line will fall below her bustline as intended. It should not be a difficult adjustment to make.

Kathy, do you really want to shorten the top in the front even if you adjust the empier line below the bust. Her round tummy will take up the length soon enough.

I thought I'd need to shorten the front belly piece by the same amount I was going to add to the bodice so that the front/back hem would match? I don't need to lenghthen the back piece as she is short and it doesn't need to be any longer in total length. There is plenty of room for the expected belly. I

I had some trouble with the pocket placement too, she asked if I could move them back towards the sides but if I do that then they will be "way back" when she gets closer to term so I split the difference and it's much better now.
