I'm sure she has no idea what's involved, because she doesn't even like to be bothered with fitting!

I made a muslin using the C cup and caught her at home long enough to try it on (but not with the boning or lining) and it's no longer tight across the bust, but there's still a loose spot right underneath the bust. I can't figure that out as the overall bodice is plenty tight -- I'm not sure I'd be able to get it zipped if I took in the front bodice seams at all. Any ideas?

Of course, she left for the night right after I tried the muslin on, so at this point I have everything cut out. Although I bought enough fabric to literally make 3 dresses -- I didn't want any repeats of my last problem! :D

Beth, my daughter is very busty (think size F cup) but has a narrow rib cage. When I make clothes for her I mark where the bust ends & the rib cage begins & take up just an extra 1/4 inch seam allowance in that area & letting out at the waist. Hope this helps.

Have your daughter try on the muslin wearing the bra that she plans to wear. Then mark where the underband of the bra is. It is at that point that you take in an additional 1/4 inch seam allowance for the rib cage & then curve your seam outward to the waist if needed. That should eliminate the excess fabric under the bust. You can call me if you need further help on this. I will be out of the house most of the day & evening tomorrow though.

How about adding something like a different colored sash, straps, or embellishment like the roses to the dress you're already making after she wears it for the first dance?

Thanks Marty, I think I get it now. She's gone till Monday, but fortunately when she tried the muslin on I grabbed a marker and marked where the bottom of the bust is. I'll give that a try.

So Kaitlinn, do you have any teenaged daughters? Just askin'....

To answer your question, I'm pretty sure that won't be an option!

I was a teenaged daughter not too long ago. ;) I guess I was a little less stubborn than some. If jazzing up the current dress is not an option, I might suggest making a different view of the same pattern (or even the same view in a different fabric), so you don't have to redo all your fitting adjustments.

My DD went to 2 proms one year with the same boy her JR & his senior I told her I would buy or make 1 dress & if she wanted another it was up to her. I ended up buying both because she found them both at super good prices. i paid less than $100 for both * she found a pair of sandals on clearance for $1.99 that went with both. her sisters 1 dress cost over $300 because she was so hard to fit.
