I ran to Joann's on my way to work this morning and bought some blush colored satin, and some silver mesh to use as an overlay. First question -- I'm looking at the care instructions for the satin (100% polyester) and it says wash cool/tumble dry low, but then it says "do not iron". I can still use an iron on the wrong side, or on the right side with a press cloth? Right?? I can't sew if I can't press the seams..... So someone please tell me yes and make me feel better!
One thing that kept the panic level in check is she wants another strapless dress with a short, full skirt. So I thought I would just use the same pattern as last year (modified version of Simplicity 2440) and I could skip the muslin/fitting steps and hopefully blitz right through it. I had her try it on, and it fits quite snugly (which is a good thing on a strapless dress). However, the fit on the bodice doesn't seem quite right. It is really snug across the bust, yet there is a loose pocket right below (over the waist/stomach area). I don't remember her having this problem last year, but she was a little smaller so the dress was looser overall, and she wore it with a thick sash across the waist. Could this mean the cup size is too small? She's bigger there than she was last year, which could explain why we didn't notice any problem. When I made it, I chose the pattern pieces for the B cup size. That's the size she wears now, so it seems like it should still be OK, but realistically I suppose she's a pretty generous B cup. So do you think this issue is because I need to choose a larger cup size (something I've never encountered when sewing for myself

I just need to get this figured out so I can start sewing the darned dress!!
