I hear that the rest of the US (except Tahoe where it is still snowing) has experienced record hot temperatures - up to and exceeding the Arizona-esqe tipple digit mark.
So, if the rest of the US is like Arizona, that means the AC has been set so low in restaurants and stores that ice forms on one's glasses upon entering a building! Here are some hints from the Valley of the Sun on dressing for the triple digits...
1. Wear a dress that is comfortable and sleeveless (dresses always seem to be cooler than shorts)
2. Always - ALWAYS have a sweater within easy reach.
This Arizona dress meets Rule #1. It is a dress, sleeveless, above knee, and of knit fabric for comfort. The AC-proof sweater is always in my purse to prevent the chills (and meet Rule #2)
The lower portion of the dress is Butterick 5485, but the upper portion is a refit and then refit again pattern I use to upcycle Team T-shirt (I wear them to my daughter's games/meets) into more appropriate garments. It is probably the most comfortable dress I have ever owned - and best of all, it is "Stash Couture"! Everything used to make the dress came from The Stash.
The sweater was knit with Stash yarn that contains a high percentage of bamboo. Basically wrinkle-proof and a beautiful buttery yellow (my favorite color). I liked the pattern because it had a rather high neckline - which is where those air conditioning fans (which I believe are actually jet engines!) seem to blow most of that sub-freezing air!
So, I guess if there is a moral to this story, it must be that if the temperatures are supposed to climb again - look to the Stash for cool (for outdoors), warm (for indoors) and comfort (everywhere)!
