I get swatch catalogue from Vogue Fabrics in the Chicago area. They have three or four brick and mortar stores and have been doing the by mail thing for years. I've been ordering from them since long before there was an Internet. Of course they now have a web site. I don't use the web site much because I like to call them up and talk to a real person when I order.
The fabric itself is priced competitively but the shipping seems high. I don't suppose that is their fault though.
In addition to their regular fabric swatch collections they have ones that are $1.99, $2.99 and $3.99 with some great buys.
I love their motto too ---
Over a million garments in stock -- full assembly required.

I've ordered from fabric.com several times. I've always been pleased with them.
Now Dorothy tells me there's something new out there that I haven't tried. And, it seems like a good enough excuse for another trip to Chicago!

Shelly -- pm me if you would like the addresses of the stores. I have never been to them but I understand they are huge.

Okay, I just got my order from fabric.com. I ordered on the 24th and took advantage of their first order shipping of only $2.95 for the entire order. I got 13 yards of fabric for about $94.00.

The earth colors are flannel and for a rag quilt for my niece's wedding shower. The b/w is 100% cotton for valances in my sewing room, etc. The dusty lilac is linen 65% and tencel 35%. I've never worked with a linen before so if anyone has any advice. Thought I'd make a top and a pair of capris for summer or maybe a dress, not sure yet.

The quality of the fabric seems great. It was however, shipped in plastic bags (no big deal) but in a very flimsy box that was tearing open. The fabric was sloppily folded which really doesn't matter, I guess. The service was quick, prices good and I'd have to say I'm happy with it all unless, like Kaitlin said, it all falls apart when I wash it! ;)

Lennie, I suggest that you wash the linen several times to get the sizing out and to make it softer and more pliable. Also, it doesn't wrinkle as much when it is washed and dried a few times. I think all of your fabric selections are great. Love the black & white for the sewing room. You did get a good deal.

HA! Dorothy you gave me my first good laugh of the day. Not bad considering it's not even 9 a.m.

To make the "thing" I sew squares together and snip a lot. No binding, no quilting. Rag quilt is a misnomer extrordinaire! No rags involved and no quilting..............

(Don't worry. Their evil ways do not affect me in the least. :shh: I just let them talk. ;) )
