Wide leg twill pants (Simplicity 3686)

New postby kaitlinnegan on Thu Jan 03, 2008 8:12 pm

The pattern is: Simplicity 3686, which includes a couple variations on wide and slim leg pants. The fabric is "almond" colored stretch twill from the Denver Fabrics liquidation sale.

This was a pretty easy and fun pattern. I did most of the sewing on New Year's eve, and have spent the last couple of days putzing with hand sewing the waistband facing down, the buttons, the trouser hooks, etc, and finally today I machine stitched the hems. I'm between 2 sizes and cut the smaller size - I didn't need any alterations! The pockets *look* complicated, but really aren't. All you do is make the little flap separately, then sew it sandwiched between the fabric of the leg and the pocket facing, and flip the pocket facing to the inside (if that made any sense). Now I need to sew up a few more knit tops to go with these.. Yep, I'm out of the slump.

Questions, comments, suggestions? :eh: :)

Wow, very nice, Kaitlyn - nice fit and sewing. Glad you are out of your slump. I wish I could get out of mine but too many factors involved. When you make tops will you make them tuck in or tunics? I would be a shame to cover those interesting pockets. :applause:

Happy New years and happy sewing. ;)

Really nice pair of pants, Kaitlin. They look like they wear comfortably, and they fit you just right. Turn sideways and you might just disappear one of these days. Maybe your next pair should be SLIM fit! Way to go.

Thanks so much everyone! :D

Sancin - I think my new tops will be fitted and regular length, not tunic length. I've got a couple tunic length tops in mind for spring/summer, but I think those will go with slimmer pants. I've never really been one to tuck in my shirts, but I actually can now without looking like a marshmallow..so I might consider it.

Andrea - I forgot to post a link to the pattern (adding now), but this one actually does include slim leg pants too. Those might be fun to try.

You look great in those pants! Good Job!

I am wondering... the yoke, belt-like part at the front, how did you attach those? I remember seeing the pattern and there were buttons there... did you put hooks and eyes or something?

Did you serge the edges or just leave them as they were?
