BTW< That photo is of a spindle , as in "Do not fold, spindle, or mutilate".. That is the first thing I was taught, when they showed me how to input info on keypunch cards to feed the computer. there was a spindle there to hold the cards with errors on them, so they would not get used. We were supposed to tear the bad cards in half and then spindle them for the recycle bin.Back then the recycle bins were called sensitive document shredder bins.(at our bank, anyway)

I do like it ... it has Windows 8 which is not that difficult to use. It took me less than 2 days to figure it out. I do not like the apps application at all as it tends to jump to apps when I'm reading an email. I wish that I could get rid of all of the apps but those are components of Windows 8 and not the computer itself. I'm still getting used to where my fingers go in relation to typing and pressing the controls as I don't use a mouse. Overall, it's very good. I have a skin to put it in at night to keep the dust and dirt at a minimum. I successfully downloaded my Embird software and Iconizer so embroidery designs are easy to do. I did get my daughter to add our printer since she lost the CD to it. Overall, I'm very pleased.

On the balance, sounds great, Marty! I suppose you would have the "Apps" problem with any new laptop bought today (aside from a Mac) since they all have Windows 8 these days. But a Mac probably wouldn't work with your embroidery software, and you'd have a whole different learning curve there. Let's hope this laptop gives you many years of problem-free computing!

I hope so as this is my 4th laptop since 2006. I started out with a Dell with all of the bells and whistles and it had to be totally rebuilt from the inside (counting that as 2nd laptop) as everything went wrong with it. Then I got the ASUS 2 yrs ago and it was working fine until hubby knocked it off of the hospital tray. So, I am hoping that this one will be a good one. A friend suggested that I go ahead and invest in Windows 10 but I am happy with what I have at the moment sans the apps.

I'm not sure but one of my church members mentioned it last week. He could have been teasing me because we were discussing how much I dislike the start/apps page component of Windows 8. I click on desktop and try to keep the start/apps page from popping up. If I could disable that feature, I would.

I do think he was pulling your leg, but the sentiment seems universal. I just read that Microsoft is releasing a free update to Windows 8.1 soon, which will do things such as bring back the Start menu.
