Reliable site for replacement parts?

Can someone recommend a site where I might find a foot control for the serger I was given recently. The foot pedal makes a popping sound and is getting really hot with just normal use (not an all day marathon sewing session). I knew the pedal part was getting warm on my bare foot, but the actual controller was extremely hot when I unplugged it to put it away. I was unplugging it when I was not physically using the machine. WOW! I'm afraid it's a fire hazard and won't use it until I can get it looked at or replaced.

I'd like to suggest you take the thing apart. My disclaimer: unplug it first. I had a pedal just stop working and I thought it was broken. I found that one of the two wires had become disconnected. It might be as simple as that. Can't hurt to look.

If that doesn't work, try vacsewcenter.com or allbrands.com. I've used both and like them both. I need to replace my foot pedal and the stupid thing is $99 so I just keep plugging along and kicking it when it acts up. Not that that helps much, but it makes me feel better.

Laura, it may be that your contacts in the foot pedal need a good cleaning. I would open it up & wipe them down with alcohol. It can't hurt. MQ, you might check with your local dealer for another foot pedal. I have bought several for old sewing machines that I'm fixing up. Most of them are around $30. In a couple of instances, my dealer has just given them to me. I had to pay $99 for a new foot pedal for my Pfaff sewing machine when my dog chewed the cord.

Well....if there was a dealer around here I would check with them. I live in rural farmland area with not much around here. I have to drive an hour to get to anything other than Walmart, Target or a grocery store. There used to be a sewing machine repairman in the next town over but I think he closed up shop. Maybe I'll search the basement for my old serger that is probably newer than the one I was given and see if I can get it threaded correctly or if the plug fits the machine I've been using. When my dad recovers from his foot surgery he can take the foot apart and look for any wiring problems as he is very talented with electronics and electricity.

When you have to kick the foot control to get it to work your problem might be the power cord. On most machines you can buy the cord only if your control is good. When the control gets really hot, then its most likely defective and do change it before buring down the house.
