Sewing for ME Challenge - Pre-challenge discussion

New postby kaitlinnegan on Tue Feb 09, 2010 11:23 pm

Back when the stash challenged ended, I alluded to a new contest. I haven't forgotten! But, I am still working out the details. In the meantime, I wanted to fill you in on my thoughts for the challenge.

I am amazed by the work so many of your do sewing for others - whether for profit, for friends and family, or for charity. Some of you have mentioned wanting to sew more for yourselves, so that inspired this new challenge. Here's the basic idea:

  • This will be a yardage challenge. All fabric yardage will be counted, and there will be a bonus if the fabric came from stash. Stash will be fabric purchased before January 1, 2010.
  • Any sewn item will count, as long as it is for your own use and enjoyment!
  • As in the stash challenge, photos will again be required.

Bob will be setting up a way for you to enter your own yardage, so I won't have to tally the yardage manually. I'm not sure when we will have that going, but I'll keep you posted.

What do you think?

It sounds like fun for me. But I have an advantage since much of my sewing is for me because I make my own clothes.

I think it is a fantastic idea! :D I don't know if it would work for me, because I haven't had a whole lot of success sewing for myself and am reluctant to start anything. But I do keep buying patterns in spite of that fact, thinking I would like to try again...someday. ;)
Take care,

Maybe this will motivate me to sew for myself! But the girls are so much more fun!

I like it. It will help me with my goal of being able to fit myself. Fitting others isn't such a problem for me but I have lots of problems with myself. And no, I swear, I'm not a 3 ft. tall hunchback with ape arms................really................. :shh: ;)

Does it count if I sew for other people, but it is to wear stuff at MY wedding?

LOL Good try!!
Well, it would be good then I'd get at the partly done projects that are laying in a basket that are for me that I never seem to get time to do. Even when I put the things for me on my list on the wall they still seem to get left while other things get wiped off and new ones put on.

Donna, don't give up on trying to sew for yourself. Maybe try with some simple things, like tshirts, pj pants, to get some confidence built up, then some simple sun dresses. And I bet that most of us find a few patterns that are our old standbys, we like the way they fit and we stick with them. That way you don't have to do all the refitting every time!!!

I love the idea! I need to make some springtime clothes to wear at work.

Sorry, I can't say just yet. This has turned out to be a very busy time for me (in my non-sewing, non-forum-administrating life) and for Bob as well! I will let you know as soon as we having things going for entry submission.
