New Projects???

New postby MartySews2 on Wed Aug 03, 2016 7:04 am

No sewing for me for the next few weeks ... My congestive heart failure has flared up again just when I have some major projects looming. Finish an infant gown, make a clerical stole with embroidery, embroider a logo and lettering on 15 shirts plus embroider 10 aprons. These are all due by Oct 1st. I also am getting ready for a porch sale of fabric, patterns, books, magazines, etc on Sept 3rd ... Now, I am on total bed rest. God does have a sense of humor. Anyway, I am looking forward to reading about your projects and what y'all are sewing. Life is good, I woke up today.

Sorry to hear that, Marty.. I will cut out 2 gowns (elongated tees) as soon as I sign off the computer. recently I have just been on every couple of days. Still trying to get rid of some of my clutter. I shopped Walgreens yesterday for Sr. special day and got some school supplies. The Church fills about 100 bookbags for needy Kids at the localElem. School so I try to get the best bargains I can afford. Everything I bought was on sale, so I did not get the extra Sr. discount this time since it only applies to regular priced items. I knew that , but I am so in the habit on going on the 1st Tues. I just went anyway.
I was asked to alter a Clerical Gown the other day, but I told pastor Susan I could not do it. I could not even figure how it was put together after looking closely at it. It was given to her from another cleric. I told her that it was a type of sewing that I was not familiar with, and I did not want to ruin it. I think I will tell her to check with the local ASG Here to find someone with experience in that field.
Take care of yourself and do not overdo , please.

Thanks Libby, I'm glad that I woke up today. I kept thinking it was the heat that was dragging me down so I didn't go to the doctor right away when I had difficulty breathing. My oxygen level is at 90% which is borderline for hospitalization. I'm trying to stay out of the hospital. The Dollar Tree store here has the best prices on school supplies. I had picked up some items back in June to turn in for our UMW project. We fill about 115-125 drawstring bags for our Adopt A School project each year. The left over items go to our afterschool care program at church. I had never sewn clerical clothing but our minister a few years ago tripped walking up the steps to the altar because his robe was too long. I cut off 6 inches and re-hemmed it as I would any other garment. About 6 years ago, one of the pastors asked if I could add pockets to her robe for her keys and cell phone. I didn't know how to do that either but figured it was like adding pockets to a side seam so I did. It worked out great. Now, I'm being asked to make clerical stoles as well as altar paraments. I sew with a lot of prayer and faith that God will guide me in projects like that. I'm glad that you were able to have your minister contact the local ASG chapter. Depending on the alteration, I'm sure that someone there can help her. If not, let me know and I will find someone in the area. In fact, Mary Jo's in Gastonia, NC may have the name of someone who could do the alterations. Here's the link for an alteration specialist in Charlotte, NC with almost a 5 star rating of her work ... http://christies-alterations.com/ ... Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear you are under the weather for awhile Marty. My DM had CHF and not under good control so there were many days spent in bed. Will keep you in my prayers. Here's to a speedy recovery. I pinched a nerve in my elbow recently and couldn't do much of anything with my arm. My grip was weak and if I moved it just right the pain was more than what I was comfortable with. Couldn't sew, couldn't knit/crochet and couldn't even hold a book to read. It about drove me crazy not to be able to do basically nothing.
I am making more shirts for my DB. Nursing homes aren't exactly gentle doing the laundry and I understand why with all the chemicals they have to use. Wish I lived closer to where he is so I could do his laundry and do more for him.
Also still working on baby items. Before my elbow issues I had stitched 5 gowns and 4 blanket/burp/bib sets. I didn't have Abby for almost a week and was able to get so much done. She'll be going part time to day care soon so will have more time. She is so active DH and I can't keep up with her 5 days a week any longer.

Saw my cardiologist today. While the lab numbers indicated CHF, the rest of the tests showed that it is a breathing issue brought on by the excessive heat and humidity. Basically, heat exhaustion although I rarely go outdoors during the warm months. He has ordered me a nebulizer to use twice a day to help ease my breathing difficulties. So, I'm good to go. I'm going to continue to rest for the next day or so and then ease back into my activities. I have a little baby gown to finish plus the clerical stole and all of my embroidery projects. I see lots of sewing in my future as I also clean out the excess. I will have a "Porch Sale" on Sept 3rd of just sewing books, magazines, patterns and fabrics. Still debating whether to get rid of the extra sewing machine. Will just have to see what hubby has to say about it.
