Oh, Brockie, how horrible that is for your community. Sounds like property taxes will become astronomical. Do y'all have a city planning commission or city planner? What is their input on all of this construction. There are more houses vacant in Memphis than there are families as so many are moving to incorporated suburbs to escape the city where the schools are considered better. It's too bad that our homeless population cannot be housed in the vacant homes. Our neighborhood is small and I know most my neighbors on my block. We have a neighborhood association and get alerts to any crime in the area. We do get 2 or 3 patrols during a shift even though the police dept is so short of officers. One officer stopped by to wish my hubby a happy birthday while on patrol. I thought that was so nice since my hubby was an armed revenue officer for over 25 years. It made hubby feel good. That's what good community policing is all about. For now, I'm looking forward to the renovations and having the inside of my house fixed up to match the outside. I want it to be a place that is warm, inviting and a peaceful retreat for all who come to visit.

We do have a planning commission and the rule states if any schools are at 120% capacity no new construction would be allowed. Well, that got tossed right out the window. So far property taxes haven't gone up but we don't expect that to last very long.
You are lucky to have patrols go thru your neighborhood. We seldom see any patrols. Luckily our neighborhood is quiet and most of the families here are older. We have had some teens come down late at night and do some drag racing but the police do respond rapidly when called.
How's the renovations going Marty? DH is getting ready to replace my kitchen faucet today.

Waiting on the supplies to get in ... Contractor said that they will be here by Monday. We close on the Home Equity Line of Credit tomorrow morning. Hubby is very, very nervous taking on so much debt at this stage in life. I keep reassuring him that we will be fine and it will all work out. He doesn't believe me though. He's always had $$$ on his mind before doing anything. Says that he cannot relax and enjoy anything because he's always concerned about the cost of things. I just make sure that my spending is in check. Other than wanting dinner out once a month or so, I really am not spending money anything except for my "spa day" and I told him that I would give that up. He said not to give it up because it's my one splurge each month. Next week, our daughter will be home from school and they leave next Thursday (May 14th) for a 5 day vacation in FL where they will have some Father/Daughter time and attend a family wedding. Our daughter is in the wedding. I'll be at home overseeing the renovations and caring for the dogs. I'll enjoy having some time to myself even if I can no longer drive.

Wow, Marty, looks like things are moving right along. Love the colors you've selected. Our BR is so small and dark I would love to have the walls all torn out and start from new but I don't see that happening. At this point I would be happy just to have the shower redone so it doesn't fall thru the floor. :o

That's the way our bathroom was. The subfloor was rotting and the toilet was leaking onto the floor because it was not level. We had mold issues so it was matter of safety to get this done. I've imagined how I wanted my bathroom to look so hubby gave me free rein in picking out the tiles, fixtures, and flooring. I wanted a window added to the bathroom and a walk-in shower instead of a tub. So it's coming together nicely.

End of week 2 of Bathroom renovation ... here's the progress ... Walls and ceiling of bathroom are painted ... Almost all of the tile in the shower area walls are finished as is the shower ceiling. On the shower walls, each piece of tile was set individually. Thought we were buying sheets of 12 x 12 tiles but the box was 12 x 12 with individual subway glass tiles. More work for our contractor. New cement board laid on the floor ... Window inserted in shower area ... Shower shelf installed and tiled ... Bathroom wall tile started going up. Here is work at the end of day 10 ...
