Y seams?

This is what I am working on. Not very happy with my first attempt at Y seams. Anyone have tips for sewing them?

Well from this galloping horse everything looks fine. I mostly alter the pattern and do half square triangles....or run for the hills and pick another project. :shh:

Sewing a Y seam isn't bad once you get the hang of it. Always start from the outside edge and work your way back to the inside, stop exactly 1/4" from the end of the piece AND backstitching to lock the stitches. It helps to mark the stopping spot with a pencil unless you are a really good eyeballer, or your foot has a mark. Do this with all your seams that require a "Y' seam. And press your seams open, makes a world of difference when trying to stop exactly at the 1/4" point. I rarely pin my piecing, but this is one time I do it, when I am sewing the Y seams together, especially pinning at the Y join. Hope this makes some sense. And your block is really gorgeous!

If you have Y seams on both ends of your piece, which sometimes happens, do the same thing on both ends. And don't forget to lock the stitches.
