What sewing projects are you working on?

July 2020

Boy, time is really flying this year as it is more than halfway over. My sewing has been consumed with making masks for the community, family, friends and neighbors. This is a sampling of what I did last weekend ... There were many others but I didn't want to add too many. So what is everyone else sewing?

You've been busy Marty. I made masks for all of the family, our 'kids' and all the grands so that kept my busy for a while. I made 3 different styles, shaped, with pleats and without pleats. My favorite fitting one is without pleats and gathered on the sides by the ears for a better fit.
My other sewing has been-what else- baby blankets, tote bags, gowns and hats. We aren't meeting as a group for our sewing/knitting/crochet sessions but have a drop off time monthly where we drive by with our trunks open and our donations taken out. If we need yarn or fabric they have some bagged up and place it in the trunk for us. The need for our donations has increased by leaps and bounds since so many are out of work during this time. I emptied most of my tubs of flannel so tried the Joann curbside pick up. I will try it again to see if it was a fluke. I ordered at 9:30 am, received and email at 10:30am that it was ready to pick up. When I got to the store I called and they came out almost immediately, checked my ID and placed the package on the passenger seat since that window was open and was closest to the store. Masks were worn. Once I got home an email arrived with my receipt. I'm not going into stores except for the grocer and that is only a brief stop, masks worn during the early hours for seniors.

Brockie, most of my sewing is for our community. Making them for doctors, nurses, nursing homes, neighbors, church friends, friends and family members. I have made over 220 and have orders for about 100 or so more. I will keep on sewing them as long as I have requests. The only time that I leave the inside of my home is to go to a medical appt. I have a lot of those and am already in the donut hole thru my prescription service. I did buy some new fabric to make some tops for myself and new slacks. Maybe I will get around to doing that before Christmas. Then, I also have preemie gowns to make. I'm sure the need has increased lately. I do take rest breaks every 20 minutes or so of sewing. I cannot afford to get sick and in the hospital again. I am so blessed with good equipment to keep on sewing.

When I finish this next batch of masks, I'm switching to clothing for me. I want some new tunic tops and have over 6 pieces of knits to use. I'm going to practice more with my Wild Ginger Software which is Knits for Women. I hope that I can create some standard, easy fit patterns for some much needed new clothes. I want to make at least 3 tops before going back into community service sewing. I also have some bamboo knit to make a pair of pants. I haven't sewn anything for myself in quite some time.
