Sewing With a Plan Challenge

Okay, I'll bite. Goodness knows I need a new wardrobe. Sounds like you all are off to a good start.

I live in MT & it's starting to get cold already. We have had snow on the mountains for a week.

For work I wear a lot of jeans, they provide the t-shirts. I have long silk skirts & jeans going into this SWP.
I have some tops but I've had them for so long I'm tired of looking at them.

I made a hot pink tank the other day which will match all of my jeans. Pattern OOP McCall's 3294. In my UFP(unfinished projects) I have a blue & white blouse & a camp shirt-white background with primary color squiggles all over it. It's a start, I hope in the right direction.

How is the top coming, Jen? What kind of top is it?

I'll have to admit--I haven't even got the fabric yet. I think I am going to use the top on the same pattern with my pants--after all, it is a "wardrobe pattern" so it should look allright with it.

Actually, I'm using up my stash of patterns, I've bought several recently (as in the last year) that I haven't made yet, but look like they would work really well for what I want to do.

I haven't quite decided on a color scheme to work with. Probably something in a red or blue. I don't know.

Theoretically my Mom is taking next week off and helping me organize my house, mainly my sewing room and the upstairs, so after that's done I'll have a better idea of what fabric I have to make stuff.

Well.. what with work and everything else... I am still "planning" LOL! It doesn't help that we are soon to start a major house remodel ... hmmm... i do have some lovely silky fabric - black with little roses on it. I loved it and just COULD not pass it up -- been in my stash for 5 yrs at least! I am thinking a dress of some sort with a black jacket? Or maybe a skirt ( I love gored skirts) with a red satin blouse with LOTS of buttons down the front? (I also love lots of DETAIL).. I'm hopeless! LOL! I just wish my waist would STOP enlarging

Kaitlin... where did you get your jean fabric? Is it 100 percent cotton? I HATE stretchy jeans... and will NOT buy the ones out on the market today. I simply refuse... please tell me you have good source for old fashioned blue denim!

Cheryl, the denim I'm using now actually has 4% spandex. But, they did have a fairly good selection of denim at Joann's -- a variety of weights, colors, and fiber contents. I'm not sure of the quality since I haven't used it before. I bought two more kinds - another with spandex, and one poly/cotton blend with no spandex. The color and texture of the second one was just like my favorite pair of jeans that I put a hole in a couple years ago, but I'm not sure how it will be as far as comfort with the poly in the blend.

I basted part of the jeans I'm making together, and it looks like the pattern has a ton of ease in it, but I think I need to baste the waistband on before I make any decisions about altering. I'd like them to be rather form fitting - I haven't gotten new jeans since I lost weight and I'm so tired of the saggy butt look!

How is everyone doing? I'm about 3/4 of the way done with my jeans -- I ran into a bit of trouble topstitching the fly area, but I've declared it done now even though it's not perfect.

I'm thinking about adding a reversible quilted vest to my plan, but I'm not sure if it's worth it unless I finish it ASAP - it's going to be perfect weather for a long sleeve shirt with a vest in the next few weeks, but it could switch to winter weather very shortly! I'm thinking brown suedecloth on one side and a fun geometric quilting print of some kind on the other and either fleece or batting on the inside, but I haven't decided on a pattern yet. I'm thinking New Look 6658 or Simplicity 4032. The New Look one is probably more what I was thinking of, but I'm not sure about the high neck -- the v-neck of 4032 might be more flattering. Any thoughts? We'll see if I have time -- I have a UFO I need to finish after I finish the jeans.

That poncho thing with the New Look pattern would be great to make after you finish the "plan"stuff.

Hiya!!! Well I've planned it and now I'm ready to get going!! Most of my fabric is coming from my stash, I just have to buy some jerseys for my simple tops. Most of my patterns are from Burda magazines that I've collected over the years, one pattern is the Esther cardigan from the burdastyle.com website (loads of free patterns!!). Other patterns include Simplicity 4076 and Butterick 3344
I hope that it all looks nice together!! I've decided to give myself another challenge too, I'm using only colours from the Autumn colour palette (I've finally faced the fact that I really do suit earth tones and muted colours!) . This is so I stop wearing black and denim. I've cut the 1st 3 paper patterns but unfortunately I have an outfit for a christening to make, plus a client order, so my wardrobe has been put on the backburner for now!! I hope I'm finished by Christmas!!!

I'm so glad you're joining us Kerkyra! I'm also an "autumn" -- I'm not necessarily sticking to autumn colors, but I do try to stay on the autumn side if that makes any sense.. That's part of why I decided to go with brown as my "base color" to start with rather than navy, although I'll probably work in some navy pieces later because I have a TON of navy suiting. I love Simplicity 4076 -- I definitely want to try it! It got rave reviews over on the pattern review website. I think I would like to try every variation, but the twist top is probably nearest the top of my list. I have a few other things in the plan to make first, though.
