Barb - somehow I missed the picture of the prom dress! It looks fab! It reminds me of a prom dress I wore - it was strapless with some trim at the waist (Mine was store-bought though, and had glitter at the top edge that came off all over the place and chaffed my arms after all that dancing!). I bet she was so proud that you made it!

Well, I haven't quite kept to my "basics" goal list, but I did at least make something in the month of May - a quick knit top. I hope to sew a bit more this month - things will still be busy at school, but a little less frantic than last month.

I'm aiming to get at least 2 projects (hopefully more..!) done this month. Here are some things on my "to sew" list:
Drawstring linen pants
Drawstring linen skirt
Knit tops - finally, I have lots of great knits ready and waiting in my stash!

I reorganized my stash the other night and found that I really have a lot of fun summery fabrics to play with, in addition to all the great knits I just bought. My summer wardrobe really needs more short sleeve and sleeveless tops, and 3/4 or long sleeve lightweight cardigans for when it's a little chilly in the air conditioning, in my home office in the basement, and outside in the mornings and evenings. I'll probably start with the pants, then a top (and perhaps a matching cardigan to make a twinset). :)

No excuses, I'm just going to have fun sewing! :D

Kaitlin, what pattern are you going to use for the drawstring pants and skirt? Have you made it before? I have been looking for something simple and cool to make for this summer and linen is my favorite fabric. Are you happy with the linen you ordered from The Fabric Store? I keep looking at their fabric but I haven't ordered any yet.

I'm using Simplicity 3796, but I haven't used it before. I'll let you know how it goes!

I've actually only ordered linen from fabric.com, but Fabrics-store.com which I've linked to before has a better selection. I think I ordered my linen from Fabric.com 2 years ago..and still haven't gotten around to sewing it. :( But, perhaps this summer! The linen I'm cutting into for the skirt and pants is from Joann's.

Thanks Kaitlin, It looks like a pattern I might like. I will look for it the next time I get out. I am in desperate need of some casual pants/skirts. One of these days I will get the courage up to order from Fabric-store I love the selection they have.

Well I didn't make my May 31st deadline for using up stash but I did get a lot of sewing done. Prom dress, baby shower presents, Bday gifts for grandaughters & niece, New kitchen curtains, shower curtain for DD's Bday & a few purses.
My new goal is to sneak in some sewing whenever possible for the summer. With 2-2YOs 5 days a week & a 3 YO 3-4 days a week it is going to be a struggle.

Sewingmom I have my practice dress cut out for my MOB dress for sept. but that is as far as I have gotten. I would like to get it done for either a wedding on the 19th or the 26th. I would actually like to wear it for both since the people will be different but I have to get through this open house for DD first! Maybe I will get lucky & all 3 girls will take naps together!

Pat...16 stores in one day...WOW. We have shop hops here in Canada too but not that many stores...LOL. As a matter of fact I deliberately didn't go on one last weekend that had 5 stores in the Ottawa area. But there is another one this coming weekend which is in the Kingston & Brockville ON areas and has 6 stores. It's gonna take us some fast driving on Sat. to make it to all 6 stores between 9:30 til 4. But we'll definitely do it... :applause:
