Baby Doll layette

New postby Pudge99 on Fri Jun 14, 2013 12:23 pm

Thought I would share something I whipped up for a customer. She wanted a mattress and pillow for the cradle. When I finished with that I thought she really needed a blanket so I used a place mat pattern and the scraps left over to make this cute little thing. The quilting was done using red work designs on my embroidery machine.

Gina. I really like it (color/design/ all and the embroidery looks great). What machine did you do it with??

I like how perfectly centered the embroidery is. So much embroidery I see seems to have the designs at completely arbitrary locations, ignoring any concept of symmetry or balance. Not the case here--it is perfect!

Actually one of the things that bothers me about this is the fact that it is not centered. Somehow my centering lines on my embroidery hoop are no longer center (about 1/8 of an inch off). I'll have to remember that for future embroidery. But I did try to give a sense of balance with the placement of the other designs.

I used my Singer CE100, the designs are from an OESD Christmas collection. I used a variegated pink thread.

From the photos, I seriously could not tell. It looked like the diagonals of the embroidery feed perfectly into the diagonals of the blanket. And all the other designs were balanced so well--all equidistant from the various lines of symmetry. I have a feeling that from any reasonable distance the 1/8" problem will disappear and it will look just fine. Nice choice of colors, too, by the way.

Thanks! I find I am my own worst critic most of the time.
