Math is not my strong suit.

I wonder how many of us refer to the women on the board here as my friends, when sharing something that someone has mentioned. I used to say my sewing forum, but now it's just my friend in 'insert state,province,country here'. As far as your math prowess Lennie, I have to get DH to do the math for me most of the time. He does it in his head, just about as quick as I come up with the problem. Me, it takes me a calculator, a paper or two, a pencil and some time to figure it all out. Then I do it again, a different way to make sure I didn't mess up. As far as the table cloths, I would think that doing them like a bedskirt would work, otherwise how do you do the pleats and folds on the ends??

Okay, just finished the table covers starting yesterday for a bit and taking almost all of today. I'm exhausted. I can really sympathize with Leighanna and her hundreds of yards of fabrics for wedding gowns.

Things changed here. Instead of box corners we went with gathering. Instead of a gingham she chose a burlap top and black permanent press poly/cotton. It's what she had on hand and it all turned out quite nicely. I am sooooooooooooo thankful for my little serger. It worked it's little buns off gathering almost 35 yards of fabric. I couldn't have begun to do it all the old fashioned way! I had one of the tables here for a bit yesterday for measuring and they were all shipped out this morning (These tables are for a gift show in some big city. Don't remember where.) According to the measurements it should all fall nicely into place. The burlap shedded horribly but between the dryer, dryer sheets and wet kitchen towels I got the shedding and wrinkling under control without having to iron much at all. Glad to have it all out of the way but it wasn't a bad job at all.

Sounds like us. Dh comes from a long line of math geniuses and near geniuses.

Did you remember to take any pics Lennie? Sounds like quite a job & I love my serger for gathering. I was once doing bridal wear & the little flower girl dresses had to have 96 inches of skirt gathered for a 22 inch waist of satin with a sheer chiffon overlay. I could not have done it without my serger. They are gems when it really counts. Before I got my serger, my fingers would have been bleeding.

Bless your heart. I have a machine that does only pleats and gathers. I don't think that I even know how to use the serger for gathering. I do understand working with that much fabric can be a huge chore. Keeping track of what you have cut and not cut etc.

I am glad to hear that it all turned out well for you. I too hope that you took pics to remind you of the wonderful job that you did.

As far as the post about cyber friends. I use a lot of reference to you ladies in my everyday lingo too.

Back to the math - I designed a quilt for my DGD who just turned 2. And I found the fabric on line, but I needed to figure out how much I had to buy. So I sat and calculated, and recalculated and checked and rechecked. Got the fabric which I love to bits, started looking at the block design I picked out and realized I screwed up totally!! I wanted to do square in a square 12" blocks. I don't know where the heck my head was but I calculated the inside square to be 6.5" WRONG!
So I bought fat quarters, and could only get 2 squares out of each fat quarter as they are 9". I need 4. And DON'T ask, but for some stupid reason I cut my squares on the bias, which also adds another interesting dilemma when you try to sew them together. THEN to top it all off, the fabric I ordered for the corner triangles, well, I have enough to make 10 quilts! So I ordered more fat quarters, and I will be making pillowcases to go with the quilt. I realized my mistake when I drew out the block and started remeasuring. And I found the correct directions on how to make the square in a square block. Oh well, it will be a lot of work, but I'm having a blast now that I am starting to put it together.

That's an excellent example as to why I don't quilt. I hate math & would never be able to figure one out. The dark side will never have to put up with my ineptness.
