I had a Kohl's bag that I really liked. It didn't last very long, but I used it to make a pattern. I love my new purse. Check it out here.

I like a purse with separate compartments, so I can find what I need without having to empty everything out. Most of the time they are too complicated to make, so I wait for a sale. I need a smaller one now that I am retired, than when I worked, so a good one lasts me a long time.. A couple of years ago I was in Target and they had a bag with frogs and flamingos and shops in the design, and it was on sale for $ 5.00. I snatched it up so fast.. I carry it all the time except in the coldest winter. Then I get a black one out that has 4 or 5 zipper compartments and is made from something like rip stop nylon. it is so lightweight, that is why I love it.. Every once in a while I make one for this or that friend from quilted fabric. They always seem to love them. I have a piece reserved for my purse, it is red print and has frogs on one side and flowers on the other.

I have about 5 purses that I switch around with, and a small white one and a small black one for special occasions. Depends on what I'm doing and where I'm going. I like lots of compartments and zippers to keep them closed. I bought one a few months ago in a turquoise green color and I love it to pieces. Course I'm taking my huge red one on the plane tomorrow, cause I can fit my knitting into it!

I made this one Thursday evening with Joe's help (he read while I sewed). It was quick and easy to do but is too small for daily use. Makes a nice "special occasion" type bag. It is very cute when finished, took about an hour start to finish but we weren't in any hurry, just killing time before getting dd16 from work. http://www.allfreesewing.com/Bags-and-Purses/Buttercup-Bag

I did not do the magnetic clasp, I just made a buttonhole in the flap and put a button on the purse. These would be great in either holiday prints or character prints for tweens/teens.

When I was looking at New Mode patterns recently, I noticed quite a few included a bag. So you might be able to find one you really like there. Considering it would be only $4.99 including pattern for whatever outfit is included, not a bad deal. I always forget about their patterns since they don't go on sale, but they're a really good price.

I used leftover cotton fabric from placemats and flannel for the lining since I bought it for something else then didn't like it for that project. Instructions said to use magnet closure but I didn't have one so I made the flap with a buttonhole and added a button for the closure. It's a hassle to button/un-button all the time so I will get magnets or heavy duty snaps for the next one I make.

I will also use covered webbing for the strap instead of just fabric. It only has one inside pocket and I made it big enough for my phone but by the time I put in my phone, two wallets, checkbook, keys etc. it will barely button closed. I plan to make one for the Christmas dinner to match my red dress as it is the perfect size for that and I may make some for the CNA's at work for gifts this year but overall, it's just not big enough for daily use.

Very cute! But a bit on the small side. I would have the same problem with not being able to close it over all my stuff.
