First Quilting Project

Learning to quilt ... my first project was table runners for Christmas gifts. I did have help to finish them but am proud of how they turned out. These were hand quilted and took many hours for me to complete.

When Sit & Sew resumes on Jan 10th, we'll have some beginner quilting opportunities. A friend of mine will come in and teach some of the basics.

Marty, I might be able to handle making the topper for a small table runner but doubt I'd be able to do the hand stitching. BTW nice job on the runners. My fingers don't have the dexterity or feeling they used to have. At times I can't even tell if I'm holding a needle.

Brockie, I have the same problem holding needles and thread but I so love mending ie..... reweaving. I hope I can find a small hand project that isn't to cumbersome to carry in my purse and work on in tiny increments.

I keep doing the hand sewing to keep the dexterity in my fingers. It took over 6 months to do these small table runners. For small handwork, Belinda, you should try some smocking or some needlepoint. Needlepoint is so easy ... just a half cross-stitch. It's not hard to do but it does keep your fingers busy.

Very pretty runners, Marty. That is my go to pattern. I usually put wide, white craft felt in the middle for the batting and use a walking foot to help with the quilting. The felt makes them lie flatter which I like if using candles. I'm too impatient for hand quilting them.

Thank you, Vikki. It was my first attempt at quilting. I do need to study on how to quilt as my attempt was feeble. Not sure if my sisters liked them or not. They didn't say anything other than "Thank you" for their Christmas gift. I guess that they didn't notice the hand work. Neither one of them sew.
